FIRST SUSTAINABLE SCHOOL OPENED IN MAZATLÁN, MÉXICO BY THE EL CID FOUNDATION
MAZATLAN, Mexico, Oct. 18, 2018 /PRNewswire-iReach/ -- Two very important goals of the El Cid Foundation are working to improve the lives of those who live in the community and creating awareness of the importance of ecological preservation. Education is a vital component and something that the El Cid Foundation strives to work to improve available opportunities. In Mazatlán, two schools have been built to help increase the number of classrooms so more students can attend classes and received a proper education.
The newest elementary school opened August 20th of this year, the 2018-2019 school year is its inaugural year. The school boasts some very unique features, which correctly categorize it as a sustainable school.
· The complex is totally solar powered. A complete solar system has been installed and the school exclusively operates on its own power system.
· An on-site garden and orchard help teach children the importance of hydroculture, a method of growing plants through minerals in water without soil.
· Recycling systems are in place, to re-use materials. Recycled waste is correctly treated and also a sewage treatment plant to treat all created waste.
· To avoid additional unneeded waste, classrooms are equipped with the newest technologies providing students with an interactive and clean environment.
These newly implemented programs are unique to Mazatlán and México as well. Projects like these, help create a culture that understands the importance of recycling, energy usage and creates learners who are thinkers and aware of their environments and choose to be responsible and care for it.
In addition to elementary education programs, a chief concern of the El Cid Foundation is educational programs for adults. Each year grants are provided to several El Cid employees to help them complete their education if they were unable to in earlier years. Also, the grants were established to help individuals complete a degree program so that they can advance their careers and open new opportunities for them in the workforce. For those working who want to finish their education or degrees with a family, the foundation also assists with the purchase of uniforms, materials, and supplies needed to help the student achieve their goals.
