Fairfield Theatre Company Holds Final Concerts Of 2018
FAIRFIELD, Conn. (PRWEB) December 12, 2018 -- As the year comes to a close, the Fairfield Theatre Company packs the remaining weeks of 2018 with an assortment of live music. FTC hosts 16 events during the last 18 days in both The Warehouse and on StageOne. Between holiday shows, rock 'n' roll, and New Year's celebrations, FTC presents something for everyone.
Starting Thursday, Dec. 13, New Orleans' Bonerama makes their return to StageOne. Bonerama can evoke vintage funk, classic rock and free improvisation in the same set, even the same song.
As co-founder Mark Mullins puts it, "We thought we could expand what a New Orleans brass band could do. Bands like Dirty Dozen started the 'anything goes' concept, bringing in the guitars and the drum kit and using the sousaphone like a bass guitar. We thought we could push things a little further."
The Slambovian Circus of Dreams presents "A Very Slambovian Christmas," featuring a set list of traditional Christmas songs with a twist, a sprinkling of original holiday tunes, and a generous helping of non-traditional musical fare, guaranteeing there will be something for everyone. Fans of Dylan, Bowie, and The Decemberists alike will find a lot to love about this avant-folk band. Catch the Slambovian Circus of Dreams' holiday show Friday, Dec. 14 on StageOne.
The next two evenings include a Zeppelin throwdown as Lez Zeppelin returns to The Warehouse Friday, Dec. 14 and Saturday, Dec. 15. It is no secret that these women rock, and rock hard. Seeing the all-female Led Zeppelin tribute band, Lez Zeppelin, is a testament to that. They capture lightning in a bottle, replicating with power and finesse the thunderous blues-rock music of one of rock's finest bands.
Put aside Tuesday, Dec. 18 to experience David Archuleta headlining a holiday show in The Warehouse. Archuleta became one of the most recognizable figures on television in 2008 when his tenor vocals and boyish charm helped earn him a runner-up finish on American Idol thanks to 44 million votes. David is overjoyed for his second holiday-themed album released last month called "Winter in the Air." It finds the soulful cherub embracing a warm, reverb-laden set of classic tunes and originals, evoking the classic releases of artists like Nat King Cole and Andy Williams.
Keeping with the holiday spirit, FTC's dear friends, Caravan of Thieves, return for a special night of mischief & mistletoe to present a gypsy-themed Holiday Ho-Ho-Hoedown. Driving gypsy jazz rhythms, acoustic guitars, upright bass and violin lay the foundation for mesmerizing vocal harmonies and fantastic stories. It's theatrical and humorous. Starting Friday, Dec. 28, FTC kicks into high gear, presenting six concerts during the last four nights of the year. Between double-headers and special New Year’s Eve celebrations, the last few days of the year will be a highlight of 2018.
FRIDAY, DEC. 28
On Friday, Dec. 28, celebrate 30 years of America’s pre-eminent Pink Floyd tribute band with a special anniversary presentation of three classic albums played in their entirety: “Wish You Were Here,” “Animals,” and “Dark Side of the Moon,” plus an extended encore.
Rolling Stone magazine says of the band, "they duplicate the sound and hits of Pink Floyd with chilling accuracy, and they play for a hell of a long time."
SATURDAY, DEC. 29
Northampton's finest folk rocker, Stephen Kellogg, returns to perform solo Saturday, Dec. 29 on StageOne. Reared on Jim Croce and Cat Stevens, Kellogg writes an exciting blend of Americana, rock and roll, and even a bit of pop.
Colorado-based seven-piece The Motet continues to win fans with their signature mix of funk, soul, and rock at their improv-heavy live shows. The Motet is more than just a funk band. They're soulful, catchy, and irresistibly danceable. They exude an energy that electrifies and will no doubt turn Fairfield into a funky dance party Friday, Dec. 29.
SUNDAY, DEC. 30
A rough, gruff, and tough bluesman to the core, Popa Chubby's sound is like The Stooges meets Buddy Guy, Motörhead meets Muddy Waters, and Jimi Hendrix meets Robert Johnson. He knows no musical genre boundaries and returns to StageOne Sunday, Dec. 30.
NEW YEAR’S EVE, DEC. 31
FTC is particularly excited to host their first ever New Year’s Eve doubleheader. North Mississippi Allstars’ red-hot stew of roots music and ferocious live shows has attracted ardent fans around the globe, and they will debut Monday, Dec. 31 on StageOne. Sister Sparrow brought the party for The Warehouse's first ever NYE show in 2015, and now return with favorite funk tunes and new music Monday, Dec. 31 to The Warehouse.
Sister Sparrow’s new album, “Gold,” takes the classic soul-rock sound created by Sister Sparrow and their brass-fueled combo, The Dirty Birds, and turns it into something altogether new: a soul-blasted contemporary pop approach supremely suited for singer Arleigh Kincheloe's immense voice and even greater vision.
"Our 2015 New Year’s show at The Warehouse was a very special night for us, for a few reasons," she said. "We had a different gig fall through for that night and had to scramble to find a venue. FTC welcomed us in and we pulled together a huge night at The Warehouse that we turned into our first live album. I had wanted to record a live album for years, and the fact that it came together so quickly and easily was really amazing. Everyone at FTC always makes us feel right at home, and we can’t wait to ring in another new year there!"
Across the building on StageOne, siblings Luther and Cody Dickinson perform. These brothers have made it their mission to keep alive the sound of the Mississippi Hill Country blues; however, they have never been strict traditionalists. As the North Mississippi Allstars, they’ve soaked their songs in raw, unadulterated rock 'n' roll while stirring in fatback funk, slippery soul and righteous gospel to reshape and push the blues into contemporary relevance.
