Famous African American Artist, Ted T. Ellis launches his "Wide World of Sports Colored Series" featuring NASCAR driver Bubba Wallace who is racing in Austin TX March 26
The goal of the T. Ellis "Wide World of Colored Sports Series" art exhibition is to capture and highlight both past and present icons and notable athletes in the sports world.
FRIENDSWOOD, Texas, March 13, 2022 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Famed American artist, Ted T. Ellis has embarked on epic series of paintings, "The Wide World of Sports Colored Series". Capturing the glory of both past and present iconic sports personalities throughout the world. Each of the paintings are full of color and energy, reminiscent of the great artist, Leroy Neiman, that T. Ellis so deeply admires. The first in this epic series is "Jack Johnson the Galveston Stevedore", he was the African American heavyweight boxing champion of the world. He was a living legend born in Galveston, TX and who worked as a stevedore before becoming a world champion. This painting is commissioned by distinguished Patron Dr. Nanette D. DeBruhl, who will be unveiling the painting at Rosenburg Library History Center and Museum in Galveston, TX for Juneteenth.
The second painting "Bubba Wallace the Road to Victory", captures a determined NASCAR driver breaking down racial barriers while becoming the second African American to win a NASCAR Cup Series, in 2021 at Talladega Speedway. As the lead sponsor, Leidos provided the wrapped insignia for the Toyota race car, #23 that Bubba Wallace will be driving in Austin, TX represented by the legendary sports figure Michael Jordan and his team. Leidos endorses Bubba Wallace for his excellence and equity for justice. T. Ellis has captured on canvas the essence of Bubba Wallace, an iconic athlete with a driven pursuit for equity excellence on the raceway.
The third painting in the "Wide World of Sports Colored Series" is of Ms. Gabrielle Thomas, the preeminent scholar athlete of her times. A graduate of Harvard University with a degree in neurobiology, simultaneously winning 22 Ivy League titles and being elected Captain. Thomas won an individual bronze medal in the 200 meters and a relay silver medal at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. Ms. Thomas is currently pursuing a Master's at the University of Texas, where she is studying epidemiology and healthcare management. Ms. Thomas trains in Austin, TX with an all-female track club, and is setting her sights on future Olympic gold. Attorney Robert L. Clayton, also a former Harvard University Track Captain and All Ivy Performer, is the Patron commissioning the third painting of Ms. Gabrielle Thomas in the "Wide World of Sports Colored Series''.
As T. Ellis continues to artistically capture both past and present historical sports figures and iconic personalities, we anticipate a tremendous amount of attention will continue to be generated with the media, sports fans and audiences throughout the United States and the world. About the Artist:
Over 35 years ago, T. Ellis graduated from Dillard University with his B.S. in Chemistry degree and worked as an Environmental chemist for eight years. Afterwards, he then began his professional career as a full-time artist, receiving national recognition and acclaim with his narrative paintings about African American history, culture, and lifestyle. Ellis desire and interest to further impact the world of art lead him to obtain his M.A. in Museum Studies at SUNO. That learning experience was priceless. His master thesis art project, "400 Years African American Commemorative Art Exhibition: Chronicling the African American Struggle, Resiliency, Perseverance and Triumph from 1619 to 2019" debuted in Washington, D.C. and was on display at Old Dominion University. Currently, T. Ellis is the Acting Chair for 400 Years of African American History Commission and Committee Chair for Preservation of African American History: Entertainment, Sports, and Culture. This federal commission was established by Public Law 115-102.
