BOP Director Michael Carvajal to Start Implementing Prison Reforms
PLYMOUTH MEETING, Pa., March 2, 2020 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Federal Prison Consultants expects that new Federal Bureau of Prisons Director Michael Carvajal, appointed by Attorney General William Barr, will expedite President Trump's signature bill The First Step Act for criminal justice reform for federal prison inmates.
Director Carvajal has served with the Bureau of Prisons since 1992 and has held various positions including Federal Corrections Officer, Federal Warden and Correctional Programs Division, Assistant Director, all within the Federal Bureau of Prisons.
Over 3,000 federal prison inmates have been released thus far due to the First Step Act and with Director Carvajal's appointment Federal Prison Consultants expects that the act will be fully implemented resulting in wide ranging changes to the Federal Bureau of Prisons and federal criminal justice reform.
Some of the wide ranging changes expected to affect federal prison inmates in a positive way are increased good conduct time credit; mandatory placement of inmates within 500 miles of their home, unless security designation, programming, or health care needs prevent it; and increased use of home confinement.
