First Woman to Lead the Army’s Largest Command Returns Home to Northglenn

NORTHGLENN, Colo. (PRWEB) March 05, 2019 -- Tonight Northglenn welcomed the first woman to lead United States Armed Forces Command (FORSCOM), Lieutenant General Laura Richardson, to celebrate Women’s History Month.

A Northglenn native and graduate of Metropolitan State University, Acting Commanding General of FORSCOM, Laura Richardson commands the largest fighting force in the United States Army consisting of 776,000 active and reserve troops as well as 92,000 civilians. Richardson, a three-star general, was appointed to her current post in October of 2017 by General Robert Abrams, but she is no stranger to being the first woman in a highly regarded position. LTG Richardson became the first female deputy commanding general for the 1st Calvary Division known as “America’s First Team” in 2012. She also served as Vice President Al Gore’s military aide and the Army’s liaison officer to the United States Senate.

LTG Richardson’s shared her thoughts on leadership, overcoming adversity and being the only woman in the room at “Women’s History in the Making”. “We must help our youth find their dream and help connect them to the path to achieve that dream,” was only part of her message. She concluded, ”To the adults, mentors and teachers in the room working with youth . . . inspire them and dream along side them.”

“The City of Northglenn was officially incorporated on April 19, 1969 and in this, our 50th Anniversary year, we are connecting the past present and future of our community. The Lt. General is an inspiration to all of us. We are proud to showcase the strong and indelible impact women from our city can make on the world,” Northglenn Mayor Carol Dodge said.

Northglenn High School senior and Air Force Junior ROTC Cadet, Gabriella Gomez interviewed the Lieutenant General, adding, “I am so honored to have the chance to interview Lieutenant General Richardson for this once in a lifetime opportunity. She sets an excellent example of how I would like to live my life.”
