Chris Herren is a former professional basketball player known for playing with the Boston Celtics and the Denver Nuggets. After struggling with an addiction to prescription painkillers and heroin that cost him his basketball career, Herren entered into an intensive rehabilitation program in 2008 and has remained sober ever since. He co-wrote a book about his experience titled Basketball Junkie in 2011. He is the subject of the Emmy nominated documentary called Unguarded that aired on ESPN in 2011.
Herren currently speaks to groups about substance use disorder and breaking the stigma often associated with substance use disorder. He is the founder of the Herren Project, where he helps families find treatment and support for addiction recovery. He founded a residential recovery center in his home state of Massachusetts.
During his presentation at New Hope Ranch, Chris Herren will share information about his recovery journey and how it impacted his family and life.
