Ms. Marlier brings significant SEC enforcement and private civil securities and commercial litigation experience to the firm's expanding New York litigation team.
NEW YORK, Feb. 11, 2020 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Morrison & Foerster, a leading global law firm, is pleased to announce that Haima Marlier has joined the firm in its New York office as a partner in its Securities Litigation, Securities Enforcement, and Investigations + White-Collar Defense Groups. Ms. Marlier joins Morrison & Foerster from the Enforcement Division of the New York office of the Securities & Exchange Commission (SEC). During her nine-year tenure at the SEC, most recently as Senior Trial Counsel, Ms. Marlier served as lead trial counsel on a number of prominent enforcement litigations and investigations. She represented the SEC in enforcement actions brought against financial service providers, issuers, and individuals in U.S. federal and administrative courts. Ms. Marlier also investigated a wide array of matters, including disclosure failures related to financial results and internal controls, offering frauds, data breaches, and insider trading. While at the SEC, she worked closely with U.S. federal prosecutors and the SEC's specialized units focused on complex financial instruments and market abuse.
In addition to her significant SEC trial work, Haima has extensive credentials in private civil securities and commercial litigation matters, having worked previously for six years in private practice, including as a litigator at a leading global law firm.
"Haima is an outstanding addition to our expanding litigation team here in New York," said Joel C. Haims, co-chair of Morrison & Foerster's global Securities Litigation, Enforcement, and White-Collar Defense Groups. "Beyond her extensive SEC trial experience, she brings considerable civil securities and commercial litigation experience, coupled with exceptional judgment that will greatly benefit a broad range of clients."
Co-chair of Morrison & Foerster's Commercial Litigation and Trial Group, Jamie Levitt, added: "We are proud to add yet another highly accomplished woman trial lawyer to our world-class trial team. Haima's arrival recognizes the importance of having diverse trial teams and underscores MoFo's ongoing commitment to fostering increased diversity within the firm and in the legal profession."
Ms. Marlier's representative SEC matters include prevailing in a multiweek bench trial against brokers in connection with a $125 million Ponzi scheme; successfully litigating a complex microcap matter to affirmation by the Second Circuit Court of Appeals; and obtaining numerous judgments against issuers, financial services firms, and individuals for fraud, registration violations, and other claims. She has successfully litigated all stages of civil litigation on behalf of the SEC, including winning numerous oppositions to motions to dismiss, discovery motions, motions in limine, and motions for summary judgment.
"MoFo is revered for its exceptionally strong litigation practice and equally impressive SEC, white-collar, and government investigations capabilities, but I was also attracted to the firm for its thriving culture and collegial environment, which give me a great platform to grow my practice and succeed," said Ms. Marlier.
Ms. Marlier's arrival underscores the firm's continued growth in the New York office, following the recent arrival of Commercial Litigation partner David Fertig, as well as the arrival of seven other lateral partners across the firm's practices in 2019. Additionally, Ms. Marlier's presence builds on the firm's growing roster of partners with high-profile SEC, government, and regulatory experience, including the arrival of Jina Choi in the San Francisco office and Michael Birnbaum in the New York office, over the last two years.
