Built in 1914, this bridge's unique design is significant to the remarkable "Vertical-Lift" strategy invented in 1893 by John Alexander Low Waddell of the well-known architect firm, Waddell and Harrington Bridges. The Historic Caddo Lake Drawbridge is the last surviving vertical-lift bridge in Louisiana. Visitors can fish from the drawbridge or the comfort of their own boat to catch fish in Caddo Lake. This location is a low-traffic, local secret that includes a handful of amenities, such as a fishing pier and boat ramp, as well as restrooms, grills, picnic tables and more. Robert A. Nance Park is open from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily. Park admission is free.
The Cypress Black Bayou Recreational Park, located at 135 Cypress Park Drive in Benton, may not be a stealthy fishing location to all, but it's certainly the ultimate byway getaway with an extensive list of activities that caters to families, young explorers, and retirees. Overlooking Cypress Lake and the Black Bayou Reservoir, this park allows visitors to escape the city's crowds and noises to enjoy a full day of fishing, boating, swimming, camping, picnicking, and more.
