Four Low-key Fishing Holes Harbored in North Louisiana that are Guaranteed to Cast Your Worries Away
The Boom or Bust Byway is a quick road trip through North Louisiana's backwoods that harbors four hidden, quiet-water fishing holes for first-time, intermediate and expert fishermen to experience a peaceful getaway.
SHREVEPORT, La., April 22, 2019 The Boom or Bust Byway is the best way to experience North Louisiana's hidden gems while driving through the scenic countryside, attending fun annual festivals, eating at hole-in-the-wall restaurants, and unwinding in Shreveport-Bossier's backyard.
Fishermen can take advantage of the quick road trip on the Boom or Bust Byway to wallow on the quiet waters for a moment of clarity at four public fishing holes along the byway including the Caddo Lake Historic Drawbridge, Earl G. Williamson Park, Robert A. Nance Park, and Cypress Black Bayou Recreational Park.
Follow the byway to the Historic Caddo Lake Drawbridge, located on LA Highway 538 at 100 North Croom Street in Mooringsport, to reel in some relaxation. Built in 1914, this bridge's unique design is significant to the remarkable "Vertical-Lift" strategy invented in 1893 by John Alexander Low Waddell of the well-known architect firm, Waddell and Harrington Bridges. The Historic Caddo Lake Drawbridge is the last surviving vertical-lift bridge in Louisiana. Visitors can fish from the drawbridge or the comfort of their own boat to catch fish in Caddo Lake. The bridge is open 24-hours daily. Park admission is free. For more information on the Historic Caddo Lake Drawbridge, visit http://www.caddolakedrawbridge.com.
Drive farther on the byway route to Earl G. Williamson Park, located at 11425 LA Highway 1 in Oil City, to catch some bass fish and release some stress on Caddo Lake. This 40-acre park welcomes visitors to enjoy a day of fishing with a slew of amenities to comfort your outdoor excursion, such as a boat ramp, covered picnic sites, 450-foot fishing pier, restrooms with showers, RV camper hook-ups, playgrounds, campgrounds and more. Earl G. Williamson Park is open from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily. Park admission is free.
The concealed waters of Black Bayou Lake rest at the bay of Robert A. Nance Park, located at 14770 Odom Road in Hosston. This 20-acre park is a paradise for the discreet fisherman that craves the calm outdoors. This location is a low-traffic, local secret that includes a handful of amenities, such as a fishing pier and boat ramp, as well as restrooms, grills, picnic tables and more. Robert A. Nance Park is open from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily. Park admission is free.
The Cypress Black Bayou Recreational Park, located at 135 Cypress Park Drive in Benton, may not be a stealthy fishing location to all, but it's certainly the ultimate byway getaway with an extensive list of activities that caters to families, young explorers, and retirees. Overlooking Cypress Lake and the Black Bayou Reservoir, this park allows visitors to escape the city's crowds and noises to enjoy a full day of fishing, boating, swimming, camping, picnicking, and more. Visitors can explore the zoo, man-made beach, marina, nature study center, RV sites, fishing pier, cabins and more. The Cypress Black Bayou Recreational Park is open from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily. Park admission is $4 per person. For more information about Cypress Black Bayou Recreational Park, visit http://www.cypressblackbayou.com or call 318-965-0007.
