Freed-Hardeman University Awards Day Honors Students, Graduates
The university recognized more than 40 students for academic excellence during a ceremony held in late spring.
HENDERSON, Tenn., June 3, 2021 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Freed-Hardeman University recognized more than 40 students for their academic excellence during its annual awards day held this spring. Students from several fields of study received awards including nursing, history, journalism, math, Spanish, computer science, English, theatre, Biblical studies, sciences, business, and art.
Nursing students Megan Gravely received the Spirit of Job award, Sunni Hooper received the Servant's Heart award and Mikayla Barkley received the Nightingale award.
Caleb Johnson received the Jodi Novodoff Award for an outstanding history major.
Communications students Elijah Brewer, Kassidy Chapman and Hailey Watson received outstanding journalism awards. Outstanding public relations winners were Cassidy Shrader, Natalie Valentine and Clay Wagoner. Austin Steel, Hannah Weller, Valentine, Wagoner and Shrader received an award for their outstanding service to COMMA, the Communications Majors and Minors Association.
Outstanding Spanish major was Drew McCullum and Ethan Wilkins won outstanding graduate in mathematics and computer science.
Grant Hunter received the outstanding student in the calculus sequence and outstanding English graduates were Jewell July and Kendell Hardison.
Theatre student Lakyn Wools received the outstanding theatre scholar award and Mariah Kerr received the outstanding theater major award.
Five students received recognition for outstanding poetry. Jewel July won first place for "Laudation" after Maurice Riordan, Casey Jackson received second place for a poem titled "Violet Burned" and Kendall Hardison won third place with a piece called "The Poem." Casey Jackson received an honorable mention for "When Spring Kisses Winter Goodbye" and Kassidy Chapman received an honorable mention for "The Escapist."
Biblical studies recognized three students — Noah Davis received the Baker Book House award, Lydia Todd won the Rhoden Presnell Personal Evangelism Award and Carter Guin received the Mission Emphasis Award.
In the biological, physical and human sciences department three graduates received awards. Outstanding biology graduate was Garrett Keele, outstanding kinesiology graduate was Claire Morris and outstanding chemistry graduate was Ryan Overby.
The following photography and art students were recognized for their efforts during the academic year: Garrett Davidson, photographer of the year; Tori Travis, outstanding senior photographer; Kazia Neal, newcomer of the year in photography; Abagail McCain and Alexis Gallagher were named graphic designers of the year; Saya Eagleman, outstanding senior graphic designer; Mac Shelton, broadcaster of the year; Presley Pearce, outstanding senior broadcaster; Cynthia Recker, best show WFHU and Addie Everson, newcomer of the year in broadcasting.
Outstanding graduates in behavioral science studies include Anna Nordstrom, criminal justice; Bethany Young, family science; John Parriger, psychology and Dalton Lankford, social work.
The College of Business recognized the following students for their performance during the school year: Kathryn Thomas, top accounting; Jasmine Stocks, top financial planning; Roger Castelltort, top management; Mariah Kerr, top marketing; Reilly Fulton, outstanding student leadership and David Rader, Jim Edmonds Student Achievement award.
