Innovative Chicago Artist makes a bold statement with Demand Justice a Must-See Pop-Up Exhibit
LOS ANGELES, Aug. 16, 2020 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Maxwell Emcays' Chicago based art pop-up exhibit makes its way to LA. Rather than limit itself to a fancy upscale art gallery, Maxwell Emcays defiantly enters the streets with a greedy reality. "Demand Justice" is a daily chant for some but for others, it is part of a chance encounter to view the world through the lens of those that continue to fight against oppression. The act of hauling these giant portraits of slain martyrs is in connection with the reality of carrying the constant burden to fight inequality and oppression. The art pop-up centers around two signature 12 feet tall wooden sculptural portraits of Malcolm X and Martin Luther King. These wooden masterpieces transform spaces all throughout Chicago, with an iconic straight forward message of "Demand Justice". Inspired by a mixture of street art and contemporary modern art, Maxwell Emcays incorporates art vigilantly and activism as a means to activate spaces and engage with audiences.
The pop-up art installation has taken place in over 50 locations and been tied to various causes advocating for fairness and equality throughout Chicago. Each temporary installation transforms the location into an unavoidable incubator for thought-provoking internal and external dialogue as well as encouraging and motivating the audience to stand for justice. Activating public space in this manner connects us to the idea that we cannot be ideal or dormant to the threat of inequality and injustice.
Maxwell Emcays attempts to address the reality that for many the idea of "Demand Justice" is part of the daily fight for the acknowledgment of the basic civil and universal liberties. In contrast, there are far too many that have the privilege to not have to "Demand Justice" and subsequently get to ignore the strife of those who face an oppressive reality every day.
