Game7 Proudly Announces First Grantees of Open-Source Technology Grants Program
Game7's grants will accelerate open-source technologies to make Web3 game development more accessible.
SAN FRANCISCO, June 19, 2023 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Game7, a Web3 gaming DAO for those who want to influence, shape and build a better gaming industry, is delighted to announce the first recipients of its open-source Technology grants program. The pioneering grantees – Jolly Roger, Dojo Engine, and Primodium – have been recognized for their exceptional contributions to the advancement of blockchain gaming, a rapidly evolving sector known for its focus on innovation and community.
Game7's grant program is part of its commitment to a more sustainable and equitable future for games. The Technology grants in specific aim for open-source, public, and interoperable technologies that drive innovation across the entire blockchain tech stack.
Despite being in its infancy, fully on-chain gaming presents unique advantages, such as transparency, censorship resistance, and community-driven development. The grants are designed to encourage and support visionary builders who are pushing the boundaries of this emerging field.
Through the strategic use of grant funding, Game7 seeks to encourage the development of new primitives by visionary builders who are not only pushing the boundaries of what's possible in fully on-chain gaming, but also abstracting the complexity of the development journey with best-in-class public goods infrastructure. Web3 games and their unique merits, such as transparency, censorship resistance, and community-driven development can provide a unique value proposition for players and developers alike.
"We believe that all three projects can play a pivotal role in shaping the future of blockchain gaming, bringing a unique perspective and a wealth of expertise and learnings to the table," says George Isichos, Game7 Core Contributor. "We are excited to support their journey and share their progress with the broader community. Together, we will unlock new possibilities and redefine what it means to create, play, and experience games in the blockchain era."
Meet the first wave of Game7 grantees:
Jolly Roger
Jolly Roger is a robust toolkit designed to facilitate the development of decentralized games that can run forever. It aims to empower more developers to join the blockchain gaming revolution. The project features an innovative toolkit designed to simplify the development of decentralized games, with a range of offerings including an in-browser indexer, integrations with Web3 wallets, and templates for deploying games across EVM-compatible networks.
"Really happy to have this funded by Game7, who is building a community of game dev for Web3," said Jolly Roger founder Ronan Sandford. "This will indeed be a perfect addition for on-chain games, many of which rely on commit+reveal systems to keep the games fun."

Dojo Engine
Dojo Engine is a robust on-chain game engine that streamlines the creation and management of fully on-chain games. Leveraging the Cairo VM and Starknet stack, Dojo Engine offers developers a comprehensive toolkit, including an innovative Entity Component System (ECS), extensive documentation, code samples, and Zero-Knowledge libraries for physics simulation and mechanics.
"The Dojo community is excited to partner up with Game7 to make verifiable on-chain games and autonomous worlds a reality," said Tarrence van As, Dojo Contributor.

Primodium
Primodium is an open-source, fully on-chain game that is inspired by Factorio and thrives on user-generated content. Unlike most blockchain-based games, Primodium does not rely on centralized servers for processing moves and executing game logic. Instead, it advocates for the "protocolization of games," where on-chain games become a hyperstructure and the value of owning the protocol via tokens is derived from user-generated value.
"Building a game entirely on-chain unlocks new affordances like decentralization and composability," said Morris Hsieh, Co-founder of Primodium. "We're really excited about trying out new ideas that couldn't have been built before!"

Game7 extends its gratitude to all teams who submitted proposals and congratulates the first grantees. The volume of applications received surpassed initial expectations, and the DAO eagerly anticipates further opportunities to support teams pushing the space forward.
