Georgia Hospital Association (GHA) Subsidiary Partners with Gauss Surgical to Help Physicians Improve Obstetric Clinical Outcomes & Deliver Cost-Effective Care

(PRWEB) July 10, 2018 -- Gauss Surgical, Inc. announced today a partnership with Georgia Hospital Health Services (GHHS), the shared services subsidiary of the Georgia Hospital Association (GHA), aimed at transforming obstetric patient care throughout Georgia, which has had the highest rates of maternal mortality within the United States. An inability to accurately measure blood loss during surgery and labor & delivery can lead to complications and even patient death. For cesarean deliveries in particular, current approaches to measuring blood loss are unreliable. Inaccurate blood loss assessment can either unsafely delay the diagnosis of post-partum hemorrhage (PPH), or result in overestimation of blood loss, leading to unnecessary transfusions, costly challenges for both the hospital and the patient.
GHA hopes to help address these challenges to obstetric care in Georgia by promoting the use of Triton to member hospitals. Triton is a real-time blood loss monitoring platform that provides an objective metric for blood loss to assist in early recognition of postpartum hemorrhage and support clinical decision-making related to transfusion appropriateness. Triton utilizes artificial intelligence capabilities such as computer vision and machine learning to accurately and objectively estimate blood loss, all delivered through an app that runs on the iPad.
Triton consists of two components, Triton OR, which captures blood loss collected by surgical sponges and suction canisters while integrating into the OR workflow, and Triton L&D, which streamlines quantification of blood loss (QBL) during vaginal deliveries and in postpartum recovery.
The clinical outcome improvements demonstrated by the use of Triton support its role in the delivery of cost-effective care. These include a reduction in units of transfused blood, shortened lengths of stay and limited ICU days, all of which translate into economic savings for the hospital.
