Hartford Public Schools to Recognize Students with CT Seal of Biliteracy
HARTFORD, Conn. (PRWEB) March 08, 2019 -- Hartford Public Schools [https://www.hartfordschools.org/seal/ is proud to offer the Connecticut Seal of Biliteracy to our Hartford students for the 2018-2019 School Year. The Seal of Biliteracy recognizes students who have studied and attained proficiency in two or more languages by high school graduation.
Affixed on a student’s high school diploma and transcript, the Seal of Biliteracy provides immediate recognition of critical 21st-century language and communication skills. Any graduating senior who meets the language arts requirements for graduation and demonstrates proficiency in another language through a state approved assessment is eligible. To date, over 300 seniors across 27 different languages will be participating in this exciting opportunity.
Dr. Leslie Torres-Rodriguez, Superintendent of Hartford Public Schools states, “March 3-7, 2019 is National World Language Week, also called World Language Week. What better way for us to celebrate than to announce the positive impact of the Connecticut Seal of Biliteracy. Speaking more than one language is beneficial for our learners culturally, academically and in terms of developing strong global thinkers who are well-prepared for the 21st century marketplace. We are proud to honor our bilingual students and their families with the Seal of Biliteracy.“
“We are so proud to award the Seal of Biliteracy to our graduating seniors for their commitment to maintaining their native language and culture while also learning a second or third language,” states Daisy Torres, Hartford Public Schools’ Director of English Learner Services, World & Dual Language Programs.
