Historic Tax Credit Community to Discuss Post-Tax Reform Landscape, Opportunities
SAN FRANCISCO (PRWEB) August 29, 2018 -- Tax reform legislation enacted in 2017 brought significant changes to historic preservation. In addition to lowering the top corporate income tax rate, the legislation eliminated the 10 percent non-historic rehabilitation tax credit and retained the 20 percent historic tax credit (HTC), but changed when the 20 percent credit could be claimed from its placed-in-service date to ratably over five years. The tax reform bill also created a new community development incentive that could be complementary to HTCs: opportunity zones.
Experts will gather to discuss the effects and opportunities of tax reform for the HTC at the 2018 Novogradac Historic Tax Credit Conference. The event will be at the Omni Nashville Hotel in Nashville, Tenn., Sept. 27-28.
“The first half of 2018 was a time of collective adjustment as many historic tax credit transactions needed mid-stream changes in light of tax reform,” said Michael Kressig, CPA, conference chairman and partner at Novogradac & Company LLP’s St. Louis office. “Now that the industry has had more time to analyze the implications of tax reform, practitioners can use the insights they’ll learn at the Novogradac Historic Tax Credit Conference to shape the future of historic preservation.”
Panel discussion topics will include equity marketplace trends, unwinding an HTC transaction and underwriting and negotiation issues. In addition, two pre-conference workshops will be offered Sept. 26: HTC 101: The Basics and State Historic Tax Credit. Separate registration and fees apply for pre-conference workshops.
