Alliance announces new policy staff.
WASHINGTON, Dec. 12, 2018 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- The Alliance for Strong Families and Communities announced today that Ilana Levinson will join the organization as senior director of government relations, overseeing public policy and advocacy for the Alliance, a strategic action network of thousands of committed social sector leaders across the nation.
"We are thrilled to have the expertise and experience that Ilana will bring to the Alliance as we work to establish deeper government relations across Congress and the federal government and infuse and align policy across all our focus areas," noted Susan N. Dreyfus, president and CEO of the Alliance. "Ilana's background, which is steeped in human services public policy, with a strong focus on economic mobility and youth development, will be an added value for our members as we work together to navigate the many budget, regulatory, and policy challenges we intend to influence as part of the Alliance's 2019-2021 public policy agenda. Her strong legislative experience and relationships on Capitol Hill will play an important role in helping us connect with key policy leaders on important sector issues including child welfare, fiscal policy, health care, education, and the sustainability of nonprofit human serving community-based organizations."
"The opportunity to be aligned with a mission that connects with my passion for advancing equity and eliminating poverty, especially for youth, is one I welcome pursuing at the Alliance," noted Ilana. "I look forward to bringing to bear the skills and lessons learned over my years of advocacy on behalf of mission-driven organizations."
Prior to joining the Alliance, Levinson served as senior director of advocacy and public policy for YouthBuild USA, an organization focused on reconnecting low-income, out-of-school youth to education and job training. She served as legislative assistant from 2006-2011 in the office of Sen. Debbie Stabenow (D-Mich.), focusing on furthering legislation to expand healthy food access to low-income residents, the promotion of green collar jobs, and efforts to re-engage out-of-school youth in education and employment opportunities. She received her master's of public and nonprofit administration from the Wagner School of Public Service at New York University and her bachelor's in social relations and psychology from Michigan State University.
The Alliance launched its Public Policy Blueprint and Legislative Agenda last year under the leadership of former senior vice president of public policy and mobilization Marlo Nash, and the Alliance has played pivotal roles in several pieces of legislation including the Family First Prevention Services Act and the Opioid bill, H.R. 6 - SUPPORT for Patients and Communities Act. The Alliance was also one of the first national networks to denounce the policy of separating children from their families at the border and proposed legislation that would have allowed discrimination of families who are LGBTQ from caring for children through foster care or adoption.
