Impact1890 Announces 2019 Grant Recipients
ROCKVILLE, Md. (PRWEB) December 11, 2018 -- Impact1890–A National Lutheran Program has awarded 30 grants totaling $273,334 for the 2019 grant year. This marks the sixth year of the program (originally National Lutheran Communities & Services Community Impact program. In 2018, nearly 8,500 older adults’ lives were impacted by organizations that were awarded grant funds. “We received a significant increase in the number of applications received this year,” stated Executive Manager Kathryn Baerwald. “Our staff and board were pleased to see interest from so many organizations that are passionate about serving seniors.”
Impact1890 conducts periodic needs assessments to identify areas of critical need facing seniors who are aging in their homes. All grants must address at least one of the six areas of needs. For the 2019 grants, the areas of critical need are: social isolation; transportation; housing; navigating or accessing health care and social services; chronic disease management; and dealing with Alzheimer’s disease, dementia and memory loss.

• Food & Friends in Washington, D.C., $15,000
• GraceInside in Richmond, Va., $15,000
• Habitat for Humanity of Frederick County MD in Frederick, Md., $8,500
• Heart of Virginia Free Clinic in Farmville, Va., $6,950
• Highland Food Pantry in Winchester, Va., $7,500
• Insight Memory Care Center in Fairfax, Va., $7,500
• Jefferson Area Board for Aging in Charlottesville, Va., $10,000
• Jewish Social Service Agency in Rockville, Md., $7,500
• Laurel Public Library in Laurel, Del., $4,850
• Maryland Consumer Rights Coalition in Baltimore, Md., $10,000
• Mechanicsville Churches Emergency Functions in Mechanicsville, Va., $7,500
