INDIANAPOLIS (PRWEB) June 17, 2019 -- Indiana Connections Career Academy recently graduated 47 students as part of the school’s first graduating class. Students attending the full-time online public school gathered from across the state for an in-person ceremony with family, friends and teachers to celebrate student achievements.

“Here we are together as a virtual high school community, celebrating graduation from a school that has challenged our students every step of the way – every single day – to think about the careers they want to pursue that will help them make a difference in the world,” said Stephanie Chi, principal of Indiana Connections Career Academy.

Indiana Connections Career Academy students pursue graduation requirements to earn a high school diploma while also completing a career-focused program that prepares them for joining the workforce in one of Indiana’s high-growth fields. During their senior year, students gain valuable real-world experience through internships, externships and other work partnerships.

Career clusters include:

  • 1. Health science (nursing and healthcare specialties)
  • 2. Hospitality and human services (cosmetology, culinary arts, hospitality management and human and social services)
  • 3. Information technology (programming)
  • 4. Manufacturing (logistics and supply chain management)
  • 5. Arts, A/V Technology and Communication (Web and digital communications and visual arts)

Standout seniors who walked across the stage included:

  • Claudia Williams from New Washington, Ind. serves as the first valedictorian of Indiana Connection Career Academy. While balancing her coursework, Claudia also worked in an insurance office more than 20 hours per week. Claudia plans to obtain a health insurance license.
  • Ashley Jones from Speedway, Ind. plans to study biology at Franklin College with the goal of opening a dog daycare facility. Ashley also received an $18,000 academic scholarship from Franklin College and was honored for participating in 4-H for 10 years.
  • Gerald Cohron from Pekin, Ind. plans to become an EMT.
  • Megan Francis from Fishers, Ind. will attend Indiana University Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI) to study media arts and sciences.
  • Synia Kopp from Bloomington, Ind. plans to attend Ivy Tech Community College and then pursue a career in veterinary medicine.
  • Zaina Lorick from Indianapolis plans to attend IUPUI to study biology. She was also the recipient of a 21st Century Scholarship.
  • Aubrey Martin from Lynn, Ind. graduated a year early and plans to attend Indiana University to study pediatric nursing.
  • Bryanna Wright from Decatur, Ind. plans to become a dental assistant.

With the to work anywhere there is an Internet connection, students hail from small and large cities in Indiana – including Evansville, Fort Wayne, Franklin, Indianapolis, Martinsville, Shelbyville, South Bend and more. The 2018 - 19 school year marked Indiana Connections Career Academy’s second year serving high school students across the state.
