Interoperability With Shipping Carriers Enables Somnoware To Reduce Healthcare Diagnosis Costs
SUNNYVALE, Calif. (PRWEB) October 04, 2018 -- Somnoware, a leading provider of digital health software, announces the launch of a new home sleep testing (HST) device shipment module. Using this new capability, healthcare providers can now ship HST devices to patients, track shipping progress, and retrieve devices after the test conveniently from one interface. The module is enabled through direct interoperability between the Somnoware platform and various shipping carriers including United Parcel Service (UPS), FedEx, and United States Postal Service (USPS). Using this module, sleep centers can significantly reduce the amount of time spent managing shipping and inventory of HST devices. Primary care physicians (PCP), cardiology clinics, and other entities who use home sleep testing can also leverage this capability to achieve significant reductions in the cost of care.
Obstructive sleep apnea adds $90 billion in direct costs* to the U.S. healthcare system each year. The disease has a strong association with congestive heart failure, stroke, sexual dysfunction, and type 2 diabetes. Studies have proven that a dollar spent diagnosing and managing sleep apnea saves over fifteen dollars in future healthcare costs. Yet 92% of sleep apnea cases are uncontrolled. This is primarily due to lack of system interoperability, which significantly increases diagnosis costs and makes it difficult to ensure therapy adherence.
Somnoware enables customers to leverage strategies like sleep center workflow automation and home sleep testing to reduce costs. Using the company’s platform, hundreds of healthcare systems including Kaiser Permanente, Atrium Health, Advocate, Northshore, Sleep Specialists, and Emerald have already been able to significantly cut costs and increase diagnosis capacity. The new HST device shipment module is an important step in this direction.
With the HST device shipment module, healthcare providers can now ship out and closely track their expensive home test devices. They can get alerts if the device is not received at the expected time. On return, data from the home sleep test is easily uploaded to the Somnoware cloud, and made available to the physician as soon as the device is connected to a computer. Physicians can then interpret the test and place titration study or therapy orders from within Somnoware. Efficient shipping and device inventory management are important elements of the diagnostic workflow. By providing this device shipment module, Somnoware is further reinforcing its role of being the single provider of end-to-end workflow management software to sleep centers and other entities.
“We were able to develop this module in just two weeks because shipping companies are thought leaders. They make their application programming interfaces (API) freely available to drive greater interoperability,” says Subath Kamalasan, CEO of Somnoware. “Unfortunately, many vendors within the healthcare industry are not pursuing interoperability that actively, impacting patient care and costing the industry $30 billion a year**.”
As the industry’s leading respiratory healthcare management platform, Somnoware is currently used by one in five pulmonologists in the United States. Physicians get instant access to diagnostic test data, e-signature capability, one-click DME ordering, CPAP compliance data, and the ability to conduct end-to-end patient care management. Diagnostic test centers can automate their complete workflow including scheduling at multiple centers, inventory management, automated reporting, therapy ordering, and accreditation.
