John Cronin and Matt Carvajal Announce the John's Crazy Socks Autism Can Do Scholarship
John Cronin and Matt Carvajal Announce the John's Crazy Socks Autism Can Do Scholarship

MELVILLE, N.Y. (PRWEB) September 19, 2018 -- As part of its Giving Back Program and its mission to show what people can do when given a chance, John’s Crazy Socks is sponsoring an Autism Can Do Scholarship. This program will present a $3,000 scholarship to a person on the autism spectrum in the United States to use at a college or trade school.

We want this scholarship to show the world what people with autism can do and we want to help people make their dreams come true.

John’s Crazy Socks works every day to show what is possible when you give someone a chance. Many of our colleagues are on the autism spectrum and they do extraordinary work. We are committed to supporting people on the autism spectrum. That’s why we are excited to sponsor the John’s Crazy Socks Autism Can Do Scholarship.

John Cronin, a young man with Down Syndrome who founded John’s Crazy Sock with his Dad, says, “We want this scholarship to show the world what people with autism can do and we want to help people make their dreams come true.”

We have been inspired by our colleague, Matt Carvajal, one of our Sock Wranglers. Matt has Asperger’s, a form of autism, and yet that does not stand in his way of enrolling in college. Matt has started his studies at Farmingdale State College. Matt says, “Working at John’s Crazy socks has given me the confidence to know I can go to college and do more.”

John’s Crazy Socks Autism Can Do Scholarship will award $3,000 to a person on the Autism spectrum residing in the United States. This person must also be attending or will be attending an accredited college, university, or trade school.

To enter the competition for the scholarship, a person must complete a brief application, provide a brief statement and submit a sock design. Yes, we want applicants to design a sock and we will produce that sock and sell it in our store with proceeds going to support future scholarships. You need not have a background in fashion or design to submit a design, only an active imagination.

What do we look for in a sock design?

  • Be fun
  • Be creative
  • Design something you would love to wear

Participants must agree to promoting the scholarship and the sock design on social media posts and allow his or her name to be used in those promotions. The winner will receive the $3,000 scholarship paid to the school where he or she is enrolled.

How to Apply?

You can find the application here. Applicants must provide the following information:

  • Name
  • Address
  • Email
  • Phone
  • Twitter handle (if applicable)
  • Facebook (if applicable)
  • Instagram (if applicable)
  • Self-certification that the applicant has a diagnosis of autism spectrum disorder
  • A brief settlement of what you will do with the funds if selected

Have some fun. Take a chance. Let your creativity flow in designing a sock. Most of all, show us what you can do.

The application is hosted by the innovative firm, ScholarJet, which provides a web platform for action-based scholarship programs.

About John’s Crazy Socks

John’s Crazy Socks is a father-son venture inspired by John Lee Cronin, a young man with Down syndrome, and his love of colorful and fun socks, or what he calls his “crazy socks.” We're on a mission to spread happiness.
John’s Crazy Socks is a social enterprise with both a social mission and a business mission. The company is built on four pillars:

  • Inspiration and Hope: Showing what is possible when you give a person a chance. We hire people with differing abilities, share videos to show what people can do, host school tours and school groups that come for work experience. We want the world to see what people with differing abilities can do.
  • Giving Back: We donate 5 percent of our earnings to the Special Olympics and raise money through our Sock of the Month Club and charity and awareness socks for our charity partners like Autism Speaks, the Autism Society of America, the National Down Syndrome Society, and the Williams Syndrome Association. We have raised over $150,000 for our charity partners and publish a monthly Giving Back Report.
  • Socks You Can Love: We have over 2,300 different socks plus a Sock of the Month Club, gift boxes and gift bags. And we match the great socks with great service: we do same day shipping so most of our customers receive their socks within two days of ordering.
  • Making It Personal: Every package gets a thank you note from John and some candy.

Please see our website for more information about our openings. For more information about John’s Crazy Socks, please visit our webpage, Facebook page or YouTube channel. You can also contact us at 631-760-5625 or email us at [email protected].

About ScholarJet

ScholarJet is a web platform that help companies who want to connect with the future generation by creating action-based scholarship competitions. Instead of writing essays, students will be able to participate in 5 categories; STEM, Art/Media, Health/Wellness, Community/Civic Engagement and Business. For example, students can paint, dance, code or even volunteer for their scholarship based on the “action” required for the competition. You can reach the ScholarJet team here: [email protected].

The founders of John’s Crazy Socks (John and Mark Cronin) and Scholar Jet (Tuan Ho, Joseph Alim and Francisco Calderon) met while participating in MassChallenge, one of the nation’s leading business accelerators, and they share an excitement for showing new ways to approach old subjects.
