Invisible Hands Honors Volunteers on Giving Tuesday Now, Looks To Expand Free Deliveries to Those At Risk From Covid-19
The non-profit has facilitated over 4,000 deliveries of groceries, medication, and other essential items in New York and New Jersey.
NEW YORK, May 5, 2020 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Invisible Hands, the community-based home delivery organization that launched in response to the COVID-19 epidemic, is marking Giving Tuesday Now by honoring its network of 12,000 volunteers in the New York area as it plans to expand its services to help more people at high risk of contracting COVID-19.
Since launching in mid March, Invisible Hands has facilitated over 4,000 deliveries across New York and New Jersey. Its response times have consistently been faster than commercial delivery services, which often post wait times of up to a week; Invisible Hands completes deliveries in under two days. Each delivery request requires three volunteers to fulfill: a call-center volunteer to take in an order, a volunteer to match an order to a delivery person, and a volunteer to complete the delivery.
Invisible Hands continues to grow, making more than 100 deliveries a day. The organization hopes that with new donations it can cast its net even wider, in particular to help those facing social isolation and profound food insecurity as the emergency continues. Donations will support Invisible Hands' continued growth, including launching a food insecurity program to support families struggling to pay for basic needs.
"Giving Tuesday is an opportunity to thank the many thousands of extraordinary volunteers who have answered our call, not only delivering groceries, prescription drugs and other essentials to families who can't safely leave home, but also offering them a vital social connection in this time of physical distancing," said Simone Policano, one of three twenty-something New Yorkers who founded Invisible Hands in March. "Invisible Hands' success wouldn't be possible without our volunteers, and we want to shine a light on their selfless work and to invite donors to help us serve more people who have been devastated by this crisis."
The organization has received widespread acclaim -- including media coverage from Fox and Friends, Good Morning America, and the Associated Press, in addition to the New York Times, which noted the efficiency of Invisible Hands' service.
