JoVE Awards Travel Grants To Gobal Contest Winners To Attend Prestigious Charleston Library Conference
Winners from France, Israel and United States win based on strategies for outreach to STEM faculty and students.
CAMBRIDGE, Mass., Sept. 12, 2018 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- JoVE, the leading producer and publisher of video resources for scientific research and education, is pleased to support the professional development of academic librarians by sponsoring four award-winners to attend the Charleston Library Conference, held in Charleston, South Carolina.
The entrants were asked to submit successful strategies to increase collaboration among librarians and STEM faculty and students. This is the second year of the award; last year's theme was improving scientific reproducibility.
The 2018 winners are:
Lucie Tryoen, Electronic Resources Librarian, University of Evry-Val d'Essonne (France)
Dorit Van-Moppes, Librarian of Natural and Engineering Sciences, Ben Gurion University of the Negev (Israel)
Jen Park, Assistant Librarian for Access and Outreach Services, Mount Saint Mary College (U.S.)
Bertha Chang, Acting Associate Head of Collections & Research Strategy, North Carolina State University (U.S.)
JoVE received many quality submissions from 12 countries. Judging the essays were some members of the JoVE Library Advisory Board, and Eglantine Ronfard, JoVE Marketing Manager.
Each winner will be awarded a grant for travel and conference expenses at the Charleston Library Conference, starting November 6, in Charleston, South Carolina.
The goal of the award program is to encourage information exchange to benefit STEM education and research. Charleston is an ideal venue for idea sharing, as it provides a forum where professionals can discover new ways to excel in their professions.
"Attending the Charleston Conference is a unique opportunity to exchange ideas and points of view with people from all around the world on what it means to be a librarian in the 21st century," states award winner Lucie Tryoen. "In my opinion, university librarians should focus on outreach because a library without a public is pointless. We don't work for ourselves but for the university community we must serve."
"As an academic librarian, I fully appreciate how difficult it can be to successfully implement ideas and initiatives on a college campus," states award-winner Jen Park, "Sharing ideas, strategies (successful or otherwise), and concerns with librarians across the globe supports the librarianship profession holistically, as well as provides assistance to librarians individually. "
