Katrin Klingenberg Receives 2022 Professional Leadership Award from the Northeast Sustainable Energy Association
Passive House Icon and Pioneer, Klingenberg Honored for Her Tireless Efforts and Accomplishments to Reduce the Energy and Climate Impact of Buildings
CHICAGO, Oct. 10, 2022 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Phius announced today that its Co-Founder and Executive Director, Katrin Klingenberg, received the Northeast Sustainable Energy Association (NESEA) 2022 Professional Leadership Award. This award recognizes those who represent outstanding professional practice, extraordinary humanity and whose work has contributed to expounding NESEA's vision.
Klingenberg's leadership role at Phius and industry-changing work were acknowledged in alignment with the goals of the Professional Leadership Award, established in 2010, to honor the achievements of an individual who supports progressive leadership in the field of high-performance building and energy efficiency.
Klingenberg was recognized on September 14, 2022, at NESEA Night, signifying the start of BuildingEnergy NYC 2022, NESEA's conference and trade show designed by and for practitioners in the fields of high-performance building and design, energy efficiency, renewable energy, and building/energy policy. Katrin joins the previous winners of this prestigious award, Joe Lstiburek, Betsy Petit, John Straube, Vivian Loftness, and Marc Rosenbaum.
She was selected for this award as a visionary who has driven the adoption of the Phius Standard throughout the past 20 years. A leader in her field, Klingenberg's immense generosity of knowledge-sharing, developing and delivering building-science-based training on how to design and build energy-efficient and zero-energy buildings exemplify why she was chosen. Her leadership has been transformative for practice, collaborating with federal and state government agencies over the past ten years and tailoring the Phius Standar
Katrin's multifaceted approach allows her to think in entire systems and have a fervent curiosity that breaks knowledge boundaries. As the Executive Director of Phius, she directs its technical, research and educational programs. These qualities allow her to continue contributing to NESEA's vision of creating a cross-disciplinary community that advances sustainability in the built environment.
The NESEA community comes together each year to honor the contributions of three exceptional community members. After nominations, they vote to recognize recipients. These awards signify the abundance of talent in the community, honor its history and celebrate its future.
Upon learning she'd been selected for the award, Katrin shared a quote from the late, great civil rights champion Representative John Lewis: "Do not get lost in a sea of despair. Be hopeful, be optimistic. Our struggle is not the struggle of a day, a week, a month, or a year, it is the struggle of a lifetime. Never, ever be afraid to make some noise and get in good trouble, necessary trouble."
