Kitsune Cutlery - Raising Over $20,000 During Kickstarter Campaign Sourcing Japanese Damascus VG-10 Steel
Kitsune Cutlery was founded by Benjamin Nguyen, who struggled to find an affordable, beautifully crafted Japanese knife which sourced a reliable and high quality steel. Priced at just $75 at their Kickstarter Campaign, the 8 inch Kitsune Chef Knife sources VG-10 Damascus Steel directly from the only forge in the world to make it - the Takefu Steel Factory in Japan.
BROOKLYN, N.Y., Feb. 12, 2020 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Kitsune Cutlery officially launched on Kickstarter just over a month ago -- and has garnered over $20,000 in funding in just over 30 days. Their product, the 8 inch Kitsune Chef Knife sources real Japanese VG-10 Steel from the Takefu Steel Factory in Japan and is able to mitigate costs by selling direct to consumer, cutting out needless marketing and advertising, and selling exclusively online.
"We wanted to make a knife that any chef, home cook or professional, would be proud to use. We wanted to source the best steel possible, and found VG-10 Steel, renowned for its hardness and durability, we knew we found our match." says Benjamin Nguyen, founder of Kitsune Cutlery. "We saw the many fake imitation VG-10 Steel knives which use a less consistent Chinese VG-10 Steel that circulate the market, and made sure we partnered with a factory that was able to source real Japanese VG-10 Steel from the Takefu Factory in Japan".
The Kitsune Cutlery campaign includes other elements that pay respects to the Japanese aesthetic such as a beautifully crafted lacquer wood box featuring a scenic view of Mount Fuji with foxes overlooking the landscape, and every knife includes a Japanese furoshiki wrap, which features masterful Japanese artwork. The knife itself features a traditional Japanese octagonal wood handle sourcing both black and rosewood in its design.
"Japanese knives are so beautiful; I did not want to play around with something that has been tried and true for centuries. Knifemakers and swordsmiths all have been perfecting this design and aesthetic forever, I knew exactly how I wanted to design this knife as soon I launched Kitsune Cutlery" say Benjamin Nguyen.
Kitsune Cutlery plans to expand into different styles and models of knives, as well as cutting boards, whetstones, and other knife accessories. After raising over $20,000 in funding in just over 30 days, Benjamin says the possibilities are "endless".
