Lawyers of Distinction Announces Updated Selection Process
Lawyers of Distinction introduces a new pending selection process that will bring more value to the organization.
ORLANDO, Fla., Sept. 17, 2019 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- To stop individuals attempting to scam the Lawyers of Distinction organization, LOD has introduced a new updated patent pending selection process. This selection process brings more value to the organization and prevents various internet trolls from gaming our selection process for personal gain.
It is important to know that these trolls have their own agenda. It is also worth knowing four additional facts:
- In the past, a scammer used a real attorney's name and the law firm's name on the intake form and a nickname for plaque presentation.
- Our previous peer nomination process was based on an independent referral system. An individual could be nominated by an individual via an automated system. The nominee would receive an automated email letting them know they were nominated by an individual and they would need to apply. This is no longer a part of the peer nomination process.
- Lawyers of Distinction has evolved and made enormous strides in weeding out these trolls.
- In 2018 Lawyers of Distinction received a provisional utility patent # 62/743,254 from the U.S. government which uses an objective and verifiable formula when considering an applicant for membership.
Lawyers of Distinction utilizes U.S. Provisional Patent # 62/743,254 when considering an individual for membership. The applicant pool is made up of three distinct groups:
- Lawyers may nominate their peers.
- Lawyers of Distinction's selection committee nominated outstanding attorney.
- Lawyers may nominate themselves for consideration.
Regardless of how a person is nominated, they are reviewed and scrutinized by Lawyers of Distinction's Selection Committee applying U.S. Provisional Patent # 62/743,254 which evaluates and measures attorneys objectively upon well established and verifiable criteria.
The patent evaluates each applicant in two separate groups, Group A and Group B producing a score of 1 to 5 in each individual category. The total cumulative points from Group A and B are then curved using double points for Group A criteria.
1) Group A factors include the following as example:
- Educational Background
- Years of Practice/Experience
- Reviews from websites including Avvo and Google.
2) Group B criteria includes the following examples:
- Honors and Awards
- Case results including verdicts and settlements
- Special certificates from State Bar Associations
- Pro Bono and community service
- Lectures and publications
3) After applying the formula described above for both Groups A and B, a cumulative score is generated. Those with a passing minimum cumulative score are subject to a background and ethics check by the Selection Committee. Any attorney with an ethics violation from a Licensing Board are automatically ineligible.
4) Only those attorneys who attain a passing cumulative score from Groups A and B and pass the ethics and background checks are accepted as Lawyers of Distinction.
5) These criteria, which were implemented in 2018, has guaranteed that Lawyers of Distinction and the public cannot be duped by any unscrupulous trolls or marketing companies who have their own agenda of steering business to themselves.
