ARCOLA, Ill., July 30, 2021 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- More students are returning to schools and campuses this fall. While it's always a good rule of thumb to clean dorm rooms or apartments before moving in, it's especially important now during the COVID-19 pandemic. The Libman Company, a 125-year old U.S. manufacturer of household and commercial cleaning products, offers some tips for cleaning shared and high-traffic areas.
The Bathroom
-To clean your shower surrounds without getting your hands wet, dip your favorite mop (try the Libman Wonder Mop) into a solution of 1/2 cup of vinegar, 1 cup of clear ammonia, and 1/4 cup of baking soda and 1 gallon of warm water. After cleaning, rinse with warm water.
-Remove mold in the tub by soaking cotton balls in bleach and placing them on the mold spots on the grout or tub. Wait two hours and remove – rinse the tub and the mold should be gone.
-To clean the toilet use a toilet brush with your favorite brand of toilet bowl cleaner or bleach, and really scrub under the rim of the bowl as well as the seat and cover too.
-Clean the sink with baking soda and vinegar and a sponge or microfiber cloth.
The Kitchen
-Clean and deodorize the inside of a refrigerator by making a natural solution of 3 tablespoons baking soda to one quart warm water. Wipe dry with a paper towel or microfiber sponge cloth.
-Sanitize the microwave by slicing a few lemons and putting them in a microwave-safe bowl filled with water. Add a splash of white vinegar. Place the bowl in the microwave and cook on high for five minutes. Carefully remove the bowl a few minutes after the "ding." Wipe the inside of the microwave with a damp cloth.
-To clean an electric or gas stove top, first make sure the coils and burners are off. Then wash all burners with lukewarm water and dishwashing detergent to remove initial film. Next, make a thick paste cleaner of baking soda and water and coat all burners with paste; let stand for 20 minutes. Scrub the softened food residue with a scrub brush and rinse thoroughly.
-Clean the front of the fridge with a tough scrubbing sponge to remove finger prints and stuck-on grime.
Living areas
-To clean painted walls, combine1/2 cup of household ammonia, 1 teaspoon of hand dishwashing soap and 1 gallon of warm water. Soak your sponge mop, such as the Libman Gator Mop, in the solution. Wring out and wash your walls from the bottom up. Change the cleaning solution as it gets dirty and rinse the bucket with water to prevent the walls from streaking.
-Lift out stains from carpeting and upholstery by sponging them with a solution of 1 cup clear ammonia in 1/2 gallon (2 liters) warm water. Let dry thoroughly, and repeat if needed.
-For specific carpet stains the American Cleaning Institute offers a stain removal guide.
-Use a mop or microfiber sponge cloth to clean baseboards. Just dip the mop in a water and white vinegar solution and wipe down baseboards without bending over.
