Lugana DOC Completes Successful Grand Tasting Event with Sold Out Educational Seminars in New York City
NEW YORK (PRWEB) November 18, 2019 -- The Lugana DOC Consortium (http://www.consorziolugana.it) held its first New York City ‘Grand Tasting’ event on November 5th, 2019 at the Redbury Hotel. Exclusively for qualified wine trade and media, close to 200 industry professionals attended the event which focused on presenting the essence of the Lugana DOC region.
The tasting event featured two sold out educational seminars hosted by the Lugana DOC Consortium President Ettore Nicoletto and wine industry veteran Lars Leicth of The Somm Journal. The first seminar focused on the characteristics of the Turbiana grape, the indigenous grape of Lugana, while the second seminar focused on the unique terroir of the region and titled “The Lake, Mountains, and Morainic hills.”

Guests who attended the seminars had the opportunity to taste a flight of Lugana DOC wines that exemplified the Turbiana grapes’ ability to produce a diversity of styles. The five wine styles featured were Annata, Superiore, Riserva, Vendemmia, Tardiva (Late Harvest) and Spumante (sparkling). Additionally, these flights showed the unique age-ability of Lugana DOC wines with a range of vintages starting from 2012 through 2018.
Andrea Bottarel continued “During the two masterclasses, the wineries that participated were introduced to the audience and they helped give an in-depth perspective of many important topics. It is perhaps the first time that Lugana undertakes such a choral action and we are sure that this is a good start that will help us bring the true soul of the territory with its protagonists abroad.”
Twenty- four producers or winery representatives participated during the Lugana grand tasting event. For many of these producers, it was their first campaign of this magnitude in the United States. “There are many more stories to tell from Lugana DOC, with a key message of simplicity of approach that boasts a multitude of beautiful stories, personalities and interpretations of this niche territory” concluded Andrea Bottarel.
