Lymphoma Research Foundation to Honor Leading Lymphoma Expert John P. Leonard, MD at 2018 Annual Gala on September 27
NEW YORK (PRWEB) September 10, 2018 -- The Lymphoma Research Foundation (LRF) – the nation’s largest non-profit organization devoted to funding innovative lymphoma research and serving the lymphoma community through education programs, outreach initiatives and patient services – will honor John P. Leonard, MD of Weill Cornell Medicine and NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital at its 2018 Annual Gala in New York City on Thursday, September 27, 2018.
The 2018 LRF Annual Gala will take place in the Grand Ballroom of the historic Plaza Hotel during Blood Cancer Awareness Month. LRF’s Annual Gala brings together hundreds of leaders from across the lymphoma community, including members of LRF’s Scientific Advisory Board (SAB), Board of Directors, corporate partners, clinicians, researchers, healthcare providers, patients, survivors, and volunteers to raise essential funds to support LRF’s mission of eradicating lymphoma and serving those impacted by this blood cancer.
The Foundation’s Gala will honor Dr. Leonard, who is the Richard T. Silver Distinguished Professor of Hematology and Medical Oncology, Executive Vice Chair of the Weill Department of Medicine and Associate Dean for Clinical Research at Weill Cornell Medicine. He is a Past Chair (2012-2015) and current member of LRF’s Scientific Advisory Board and a current member of LRF’s Board of Directors, for his longstanding support of the Lymphoma Research Foundation, his dedication to lymphoma patients and their loved ones, and his achievements in lymphoma research and clinical care.

Renowned Sotheby’s auctioneer C. Hugh Hildesley will once again serve as the evening's auctioneer for both the live auction, as well as the Foundation’s signature Raise it for LRF segment in which attendees pledge funds to support LRF’s mission.

About John Leonard, M.D.
An expert in hematology and oncology, Dr. Leonard’s research has been published in numerous medical journals, and he has served as a member of the editorial boards of Blood and the Journal of Clinical Oncology, leading international journals in these fields. He is Chair of the Lymphoma Committee of the Alliance for Clinical Trials in Oncology (formerly CALGB, ACOSOG and NCCTG), a multicenter cooperative group and key component of the National Cancer Institute’s National Clinical Trials Network. Dr. Leonard has been an elected member of the American Board of Internal Medicine subspecialty board for Hematology, and he has also been elected to membership in the American Society of Clinical Investigation. In 2017 he received the Miriam G. Wallach Award for Excellence in Humanistic Medical Care from New-York Presbyterian Hospital.
Dr. Leonard’s primary research interest is in the development of novel therapeutic strategies for the treatment of lymphoma and related hematologic malignancies, and he has lectured at major international meetings on these topics. Much of his work has involved the development of novel therapies for lymphoma, including monoclonal antibodies, other immune-based treatments, targeted agents and other innovative approaches. He also has studied prognostic, imaging and survivorship issues for lymphoma patients. Dr. Leonard performed his undergraduate work at Johns Hopkins University and received his medical degree at the University of Virginia School of Medicine in Charlottesville, VA. He completed his residency in medicine at the New York Hospital - Cornell Medical Center and Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York, NY. He completed a fellowship in hematology and oncology at Cornell, and served as the chief medical resident at the New York Hospital - Cornell Medical Center.
