Mark Zuppo, City's Own "Voice of Girard", Running for Mayor
Girard, Ohio (PRWEB) March 29, 2023 -- When Mark was a young boy, he loved riding in the car with his father. He used to say, “dad you should run for mayor...everyone knows you and they like you!” His response was a typically short one......yeah...uh huh! Mark’s father was a policeman and a school bus driver. When Mark approached his father about running for city council, his answer was expectedly short.... yeah...uh huh. One of the lessons he learned from his father was that if he said he would do something, he did it. Once his father saw that he had grown up and was a man of his word, he asked, “how can I help with your campaign?” Mark, his wife Carol, his children, mom and dad would run that campaign in the early 90’s. What Mark discovered when he started going door to door in the second ward was that his father had left a great legacy…. his name. You can’t put a price tag on that. His father died just shy of two years into his term as second ward councilman. But in those twenty-two months, Mark and his father had plenty of conversations about running for a higher office. If he was alive today, he just might have more to say than.......yeah uh huh! Mark just knows that he would have been so proud to see this day.
Once Mark began his journey into public service, he was hooked! He has proudly served his community in public office for over 30 years in several roles, beginning as a Councilman in 1992 where he served for 8 years. He has also served the City as Recreation Director (2 years) and presently serves as City Treasurer (9 years). He currently serves on the Girard School Board and has for 16 years, with 9 of those years as School Board President. As a coach, Mark has also instructed and inspired the youth of Girard since 1975. Mark was key in helping to form the Girard Athletic Association in 1996 and was the founder and co-chair of the annual golf outing, raising thousands of dollars for Girard Athletics. Around the same time, he also helped to forge the Girard Hall of Fame and served as that body’s President for 19 years. One of his great joys is volunteering to play the role of Santa Claus for Girard City Schools and the greater community for the past 20+ years. Over that same time, he has volunteered his time to read to students during Read Across America Day every year. Mark may be best known as the “voice of Girard” athletics for 26 years. He has been a staple as the PA announcer on Friday nights at Arrowhead stadium, at both boys and girls basketball, and at the annual Special Olympics event hosted in Girard annually.
Over the years, from listening to people in the community, he has a vision for Girard. That vision continues to evolve, and will continue to do so as our lines of communication become more available! Mark now feels a sense of responsibility to share his vision of the future here in Girard. He feels we must listen to people. We must have open minds as well as open hearts.
The combination of Mark’s desire to fulfill his sense of responsibility to the Girard community, as well as fulfilling his father’s dreams, drives his promise to work hard for our town!
Your Voice. Your Vision. Our Town.
