Maryland School For The Deaf Awarded Semiquincentennial Grant Of $750,000 For Preservation Of The Hessian Barracks
Frederick, Maryland (PRWEB) July 31, 2023 -- The Maryland School for the Deaf (MSD) is pleased to announce that it has been granted a Semiquincentennial grant of $750,000 from the National Park Service. This significant grant will be utilized for the preservation of the historic Hessian Barracks, focusing on critical stabilization and foundation work.
The Hessian Barracks holds an integral place in Maryland’s rich historical heritage, serving as a testament to our nation’s history and the experiences of the past. Erected in 1777 during the Revolutionary War, this two-story National Historic Site has served multiple purposes over the last two centuries. With historical importance to MSD, the Hessian Barracks served as the school’s initial meeting place before MSD’s first building was constructed in 1871. Today, it stands as a significant landmark, preserving the stories of those who once walked its halls and contributing to our collective understanding of America’s past.
