WASHINGTON, Sept. 14, 2018 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- The District's only free all-night arts festival, Art All Night, returns on Saturday, September 29 with a new lineup of visual and performing arts exhibits, workshops and performances. The Department of Small and Local Business Development (DSLBD) and D.C. Commission on the Arts and Humanities (DCCAH) are sponsoring the festival presented by the Main Streets Programs in Congress Heights, Deanwood Heights, Dupont Circle, H Street, Minnesota Avenue, North Capitol, Shaw and Tenleytown, highlighting the most innovative and creative artistic forces in the city for the annual around-the-clock experience.

Mayor Muriel Bowser and other city officials are expected to celebrate D.C.'s local arts scene throughout Art All Night. From 7 p.m. on September 29 until 3 a.m. on September 30, artists and arts enthusiasts can bounce around the city experiencing painting, photography, sculpture, crafts, fashion, music, dance, theater, silent discos, film and poetry in a variety of unique indoor and outdoor spaces located throughout Washington.

The all-night art festival, modeled after Paris' "Art All Night Nuit Blanc," is a festival that debuted in D.C. 11 years ago in Shaw. It is now celebrated throughout the city in eight neighborhoods and attended by upwards of 50,000 people each year.

Art All Night will spread across eight D.C. neighborhoods this year:

  • Congress Heights: Experience the Art of Chocolate City encompassing the breadth and vibrancy of one of the most dynamic cultures in DC. Experience all forms of visual and performing arts, aiming to take you on a journey through Sound, Movement, Magic, Brilliance, Taste and Calor. The Night is bound to dazzle and delight with the vividness of its artists' imaginations. Showcasing over 200 of DC's finest artists in more than 20 venues, indulge yourself in its abundant pleasures of dance, fashion, cyphers, live mix tapes, interactive art experiences and a midnight brunch.
  • Deanwood Heights: Deanwood Heights Main Street will go old school with tributes to art and entertainment from the 60's and 70's and more to celebrate Ward 7's rich historic and artistic traditions in its first Art All Night. The festivities kick off at 5 p.m. with a Kids focus Program leading into an all-night affair.*
  • Minnesota Avenue: Minnesota Avenue Main Street's first Art All Night will be a celebratory evening full of art, dance, music, poetry, photography and interactive activities showcasing a tapestry of talents representing Ward 7's thriving communities. Follow the joyful sounds and sights to experience an unforgettable evening.*

*Ride the East Side Shuttle with stops at Deanwood Heights, Minnesota Avenue and H Street/Oklahoma Streetcar stop to visit all their neighborhoods have to offer from 5 p.m. to midnight.

  • Dupont Circle: Take a stroll through Dupont's art galleries, embassies and retailers. Dupont Circle is home to world-class museums, think tanks, and ambassador's residents. Some special locations will be open for you to discover fine art and entertainment.
  • H Street: The historic corridor will host a feast for the senses, inviting guests to immerse & experience stimulating artistic endeavors & diverse creativity across the evolving strip. It's always a unique H Street experience.
  • North Capitol: Made In DC presents "A Different World," showcasing a melting pot of local artists and old and new D.C. culture with art, dance, film, music and installations. Walk the streets of North Capitol and Bloomingdale Business District, lined with live painting demonstrations and muralists, on your way to learn the "Art of a Drink" and vibe to the best jazz musicians on Black Broadway (known today as the U Street Corridor). Dance to your own drum at the Silent Dance Party and join Mundo Verde's talented students in an acoustic performance and so much more.
  • Shaw: Enjoy eight hours of indoor and outdoor events across the neighborhood where Art All Night DC started in 2011, complete with live music, dance, painting, body painting, photography, film, fashion and DIY activities. Shaw is home to the largest number of artists, performers and venues at the annual festival. This year's theme is #ShawGlows, which will be reflected in a large number of installations and interactive events using neon, black lights, and other colorful visual effects. Highlights include parades, an art market, fire dancers, dance parties, new murals, projections, and free glow-in-the-dark giveaways.
