Meadows Behavioral Healthcare will be a co-sponsor of the Annual International Trauma Conference taking place May 29 - June 1, 2019, in Boston, Mass. at the Seaport World Trade Center.
PHOENIX, May 9, 2019 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- This year's conference marks the thirtieth annual conference and the fourteenth year of sponsorship by The Meadows and parent company Meadows Behavioral Healthcare. The conference will present both basic research about the impact of trauma over the life cycle, and a range of effective interventions practiced in clinics, schools, prisons, families, and communities around the world.
International Trauma Conference director, Bessel A. van der Kolk, MD, is a Senior Fellow of Meadows Behavioral Healthcare, The New York Times bestselling author of The Body Keeps Score, and founder of the Trauma Research Foundation. Dr. van der Kolk will take part in several pre-conference workshops and present the opening keynote address on Friday, May 31.
Meadows Behavioral Healthcare Senior Fellows, Richard Schwartz, PhD, and Kevin McCauley, MD, will participate in the conference as featured speakers. Dr. Schwartz will conduct two workshops over the four day conference, presenting The Use of MDMA for Treating PTSD and Effectively Treating Schizophrenia with Internal Family Systems. Dr. McCauley will present America's Opioid Epidemic, Our Nation's 911 Call.
Dr. Schwartz is the developer of Internal Family Systems (IFS), a non-pathologizing, hopeful framework with which to practice psychotherapy. He is the author of four books and over 50 articles on IFS and founder of the Center for Self Leadership.
Dr. McCauley is a former US Naval Flight Surgeon and became interested in the problem of addiction after witnessing the success of the Navy's program for treating pilots with alcohol problems. He is an award winning filmmaker, receiving the National Association of Addiction Treatment Providers (NAATP) Michael Q. Ford Journalism Award for his film, "Pleasure Unwoven," and an expert on the neurobiology of addiction.
The theme of this year's International Trauma Conference is "Psychological Trauma: Neuroscience, Attachment, and Therapeutic Interventions." The conference goal is to present current research findings on how people's brains, minds, and bodies respond to traumatic experiences; how they regulate emotional and behavioral responses; and the role of relationships in protecting and restoring safety and regulation.
