Metalith Launches First-Ever NFT Index

SINGAPORE, Dec. 11, 2019 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Metalith, an advanced provider of research and tools for Non-Fungible Token (NFT) markets, is excited to announce the launch of the first-ever index built for an NFT, the Decentraland LAND token. The "Metalix" group of indexes will track parcels in the Decentraland virtual world as part of a push to evolve market efficiency in the NFT space. Metalith also announced a seed investment from Metaverse Ventures, a Digital Currency Group firm that invests in companies building products and services in Decentraland.

Parcels are the core unit of the Decentraland virtual world, enabling owners to reap the full economic benefits of their work through uncensorable property rights powered by the blockchain. A transparent and efficient LAND market is crucial to success and lies at the heart of Metalith's mission to build essential infrastructure for NFT markets.

Index Methodologies

LAND is a heterogeneous asset with an opaque and illiquid market, making it a prime candidate for an index. As a digitally native good, LAND combines elements of utility and speculation, both of which have significant growth potential. Metalith is in the process of researching and selecting a number of established models from index number theory that respect this multitude of distinct characteristics.

The first LAND Index provides sales medians on weekly, monthly, and quarterly time frames since the birth of the Decentraland marketplace in March 2018. Medians are a simple but informative tool in approaching an index and present an effective stepping stone to more complex approaches. Metalith provides a number of index filters to accommodate for preferential differences between stakeholders.

Index Details

Areas in Decentraland have been divided into Zones to provide greater insight into the local performance of LAND. Zoning has already yielded some interesting results: for example, while the whole of the weekly Index (in USD) is down by ~40% since the launch of the Decentraland Marketplace in March 2018, Zone 8 (in the middle of the bottom of the Decentraland map) has held up very well and is only down ~1% versus its value at launch.

About the Team

Joël Hubert and Mark Le have worked in a professional capacity with blockchain technology since 2016, both with a full-stack focus in on-chain private corporate governance. Joël is a Finance and Economics graduate with a specialisation in econometrics and Mark studied Information Systems in combination with Technopreneurship.
