Minneapolis e-tailer shuts down shop for Global Climate Strike
HiBAR, the inventor of salon-quality, plastic-free hair care, has announced that it will be temporarily closing its online store in support of the Global Climate Strike.
MINNEAPOLIS, Sept. 21, 2019 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- A Minneapolis-based online retailer of eco-conscious beauty products has announced that it will be temporarily closing its shop in support of the Global Climate Strike scheduled for Friday, September 20th.
In doing so, HiBAR joins a small but determined list of businesses willing to sacrifice income for principals, among them Patagonia and Burton.
"We look at young people like Greta Thunberg and are humbled by their passion and sense of right. The climate crisis is being kicked down the road for our next generations to deal with. We want to help address the issue right now, so our children and grandchildren can grow up in a safe and healthy environment" says HiBAR co-founder Dion Hughes.
Though HiBAR was invented to remove single-use plastic from the bathroom, there are also positive carbon footprint effects of being a non-liquid product. "Traditional shampoos and conditioners are at least 80% water, which means they are far heavier to transport," added HiBAR co-founder Nora Schaper. "Why ship all that water when you already have water in your shower?" continued Hughes.
Though the business derives as much as a half of its income from its online store, Hughes and Schaper seem unconcerned by the loss of sales. "We can't just sit on the sidelines. We have to act, no matter what the cost. We owe it to our kids."
The Global Climate Strike is launching on Friday September 20th and will continue through to September 27th.
