Monroe College Professor Bruce Wigutow Named Northeast Regional Honors Council’s Faculty of the Year
BRONX, N.Y. (PRWEB) April 29, 2019 -- Monroe College, a national leader in educating urban and international students, today announced that faculty member Bruce Wigutow has been named as the recipient of the Northeast Regional Honors Council (NRHC)’s inaugural Honors Professional of the Year in the Faculty category.
The award, introduced to recognize excellence among honors faculty or staff members, was presented to Professor Wigutow at the 2019 NRHC Conference in Baltimore on April 14. The Northeast Regional Honors Council, an organization dedicated to the engagement and support of honors undergraduate learning, selected Wigutow as its winner in recognition of his outstanding contributions to students’ academic success and to the broader honors community.
“We heartily congratulate Professor Wigutow on this well-deserved accolade,” said Marc Jerome, President of Monroe College. “The depth of his knowledge and experience, combined with his warmth and approachability, make him a tremendous resource to students and peers alike. He exemplifies the College’s commitment to students’ personal, academic and professional development, and we’re extremely proud to have him on our faculty.”
Professor Wigutow, a long-time English and Social Sciences educator, has been a valued member of the Monroe College community since 2014, and an active member of its Honors Program since 2015. He also serves on the College’s Academic Affairs Council. Furthermore, in 2016, he received the College’s W. Jeff Wallis Faculty of Distinction Award, bestowed annually upon select faculty members who are deemed by their peers to exhibit relentless dedication to student achievement, uncompromising professional standards, and strong embodiment of the College’s core values.
Professor Wigutow was again nominated by fellow faculty members, in addition to his students, for the NRHC award. Among other attributes, they praised his unique ability to engage and connect with individuals from diverse backgrounds, blending academic rigor and empathy to foster a strong sense of community among students.
The Monroe College Honors Program, in which Professor Wigutow maintains an active role, was established in 2004 to provide academically accomplished and intellectually curious students with the opportunity to engage in advanced coursework, participate in valuable experiential learning activities, present original research at national academic conferences, serve the local community through volunteer work and more.
