Monroe College Students and Staff Volunteers to Mark Fifth Annual Mustang Day of Service on Feb. 18
NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. (PRWEB) February 14, 2019 -- Monroe College, a national leader in educating urban and international students, today announced that it will proudly host its annual Mustang Day of Service on Monday, February 18.
Now in its fifth consecutive year, the Mustang Day of Service gives the College’s students, staff, and faculty an opportunity to acknowledge and return the community’s ongoing support by giving back to local organizations in need. This year, more than 160 students will participate in a range of activities across the greater New Rochelle area, home to one of the College’s three campuses. Student-athletes from Monroe’s athletics programs, which collectively field 28 teams across 10 sports, are expected to lead activities at this year’s 15 volunteer sites.
In addition to organizing and sorting clothing donations for various local organizations, Monroe’s volunteers will collaborate with Hope Community Services Inc. and Meals on Wheels to prepare and serve meals for those in need. Additional activities will see participants work on projects that benefit area youth as they host a basketball clinic, assist with daycare setup, engage in interactive games, collate reading packets and make blankets for underprivileged children. The volunteers will also support the work of A Million Thanks, a national organization that spreads cheer to veteran servicemembers, as well as those on active or reserve duty, by delivering letters of gratitude.
Luis Melendez, Director of Athletics and Head Baseball Coach at Monroe College, explained the event’s purpose: “In addition to helping our student-athletes excel on the field, we work hard every day to help these young adults mature into responsible, caring individuals off the field as members of a broader community. Through this day of volunteerism and charitable work, our student-athletes have an opportunity to share their time, hands, and hearts with incredible organizations that serve our neighbors in need. It’s a richly rewarding experience for everyone, and we look forward to marking our fifth annual Day of Service next week.”
