Monster Energy’s Troy Brosnan Takes Second at the UCI Mountain Bike World Championships in Mont-Sainte-Anne, Quebec
MONT-SAINTE-ANNE, Quebec (PRWEB) September 03, 2019 -- Monster Energy’s Troy Brosnan (AUS) and Amaury Pierron (FRA) take second and third place at the 2019 Mountain Bike World Championships in Mont-Sainte-Anne, Canada.
In front of tens of thousands of fans that lined the 2.9 KM track from top to bottom, Brosnan and Pierron put on a show for mountain bike fans around the world. In near perfect conditions, with tacky dirt and the sun shining, the two slowly inched the clock down in back to back runs until only one man was left to steal away the gold medal and coveted rainbow stripes. Brosnan was beat out by the slimmest of margins, just barely one half of a second, while Pierron was 2.5 seconds off of the win putting them in second and third place.
Known as one of the gnarliest tracks on the circuit, MSA didn’t disappoint this year. With speeds of over 71km/hr and giant unforgiving rock gardens, fans were treated to a battle for the ages with riders putting it all on the line for rainbows with the one-day championship format. Slippery, dusty corners and mechanicals caused by the jagged rocks took a number riders out of contention, but luckily the top five were able to put in clean runs and make for a fantastic day of racing.
Brosnan was thrilled with a second place at Worlds, even though he was a favorite for the win heading into race day.
“It’s amazing. I really wanted that jersey, but to get a silver medal is emotional,” said Brosnan. It’s so hard to win these things and I put in everything I could. I just missed out by the skin of my teeth. I’m really happy with how I rode everything and with the effort I put in. It’s paid off! Second in the world is nothing to be upset about. Now I will just enjoy the night, enjoy the moment and look forward to next week and the last race of the season.”
Pierron was devastated with a mistake at the very top of the track that ended up costing him dearly. “This was a difficult week for me. I’m not a world champs guy, I struggle a bit when it’s a one race, one goal day. It’s hard. I was very confident after my win in Lenzerheide. I found good speed on the bike, it felt good. I was ready, the team was ready, but it was a struggle. The first training I was not in a good mood. And then today I was so good, and enjoyed riding my bike. I felt good – you can do it. Everything was good to go, but a mistake at the top of the track cost me a lot… way too much, but that’s the game. Troy and Loic were fast. Loic was insane, that’s three in a row! I want to stop him, but this is my first worlds medal and I am happy with it and hungry for the next one. I’ll give it everything next week and we will see.”
Monster’s Energy’s Danny Hart (GBR) just missed the podium landing in 4th place, Mark Wallace (CAN) took 9th and Luca Shaw (USA) took 10th. Fellow American Charlie Harrison landed in 13th and Brendan Fairclough (GBR) was 33rd.
The World cup now packs its bags and heads to the United States for the final stop of the 2019 downhill season in Snowshoe, West Virginia where champions will be crowned and everyone can take a long deserved rest before heading into training season.
