NABSE Partners with The Right to Read to Offer Free Documentary Screening on Juneteenth
The National Alliance of Black School Educators (NABSE) is pleased to announce a partnership with the social impact campaign The Right to Read to host a free, virtual screening of the documentary on Juneteenth to amplify the importance of literacy as a civil right.
WASHINGTON, June 15, 2023 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- The National Alliance of Black School Educators (NABSE) is pleased to announce a partnership with the social impact campaign The Right to Read to host a free, virtual screening of the documentary on Juneteenth to amplify the importance of literacy as a civil right. This partnership is part of a focused effort to empower educators, leaders, and families across the country with evidence-based tools to improve literacy levels among children.
As the nation's premier organization dedicated to the academic success of children, particularly children of African descent, NABSE extends its outreach to a distinguished group of educators, superintendents, as well as corporate and institutional members. Together with The Right to Read, NABSE aims to highlight the literacy crisis in the U.S. and drive a collective solution to ensure that all Black students have equitable access to effective literacy instruction.
The Right to Read shares the stories of an NAACP activist, a teacher, and two American families who fight to provide our youngest generation with the most foundational indicator of life-long success: the ability to read. Experts throughout the film also discuss the current state of literacy in the United States and the importance of implementing the science of reading into classroom instruction nationwide.

In addition to the screening on Juneteenth, the film is also being made available to NABSE's affiliate chapters for their local programming and efforts. The Right to Read impact campaign will also develop exclusive programming for the 51st Annual NABSE Conference, including film screenings, panel discussions, and opportunities for constructive dialogue around the issues of literacy and education equity.
