NEVE Announces Scholarships for STEM Students for 2023-2024 Academic Year

CORAL GABLES, Fla., March 2, 2023 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- NEVE (Nascimento Education, Vision & Empowerment), the philanthropic arm of entrepreneur Gerson Nascimento's enterprises NEVE Project, Inc. announces scholarship for STEM students for 2023-2024 academic year.
"As NEVE enters its second year of providing scholarships to first-gen STEM students, we are grateful to Gerson Nascimento, NEVE's Founding chairman, and the board of directors for continuing to provide financial support to the foundation," said Alec J. Rosen, president & CEO of NEVE Project. "In addition to the financial support, the NEVE students are providing guidance and mentoring through their various STEM academic programs, which will continue as the NEVE community continues to expand."
NEVE's first scholarship recipient, Lucas Nadolski, will be awarded a master's degree in Biomedical Engineering from Carnegie Mellon University in May 2023. Lucas' research focused on neural activity, looking at how sensory information connects directly into the visual cortex. He will continue this field of study for a PhD where he hopes to work on creating visual prostheses designed to provide artificial vision to blind patients, a very personal pursuit for Lucas, as the first blind student in the BME department and one of the few ever at CM.
NEVE was also pleased to recently receive updates from previous scholarship recipients.
Erykah, raised by first generation immigrants and on the path to be the first college graduate in her family, will soon complete freshman year as a biology major at Florida A&M University, and Ammy, a soccer star studying Applied Mathematics at West Virginia State University is wrapping up sophomore year. Other NEVE Project scholarship recipients for 2023 report continuing success in their academic endeavors, including Jackson, a studying electrical engineering at Texas Christian University, and Anoami, Civil Engineering major at University of Nevada in Las Vegas.
NEVE is funding two one-year $10,000 undergraduate scholarships, the criteria for applying for the NEVE scholarships are simple – any undergraduate students who are enrolled or already accepted into a full-time post-secondary educational institution and pursuing Bachelor of Science or Engineering degree in one of the STEM fields (Science, Technology, Engineering & Mathematics). Eligible applicants must have a minimum cumulative college Grade Point Average of 3.0 on a scale where 4.0 is the highest; and/or class ranking in the top 30%. Additional criteria include three letters of recommendation from an instructor or faculty advisor, a current or past employer, and at least one character reference. Multiple employer or academic references are permitted.
Applicants should present strong evidence of excellence of character and leadership ability, and a demonstrated record of volunteerism and service to community & others. Preference is given to applicants from disadvantaged backgrounds who are the first generation in their families to attend college.
