NYICD Graduate Sergio Gamarra Exemplifies Student Success
NEW YORK (PRWEB) July 25, 2018 -- Before enrolling at the New York Institute of Career Development, Sergio Gamarra struggled to find the right career path. He spent some time studying for his computer science degree, but always had a feeling he wasn’t in the right field. “I wasn’t satisfied,” he says. “I just felt like computer science was not for me. What I wanted was to go into healthcare and actually help people.”
Lucky for Sergio, the self-paced pharmacy technician course offered by NYICD allowed him to get started the instant he found the course online. He knew that he didn’t have to put his life on hold to pursue this new opportunity. Instead, he was able to study and complete his coursework from home, with one-to-one support from an expert in his field, Thomas Frisco.
“Tom helped me with every question I had and explained everything so that I could understand,” Sergio says.
After completing much of his coursework, Sergio began his externship at CVS, one of NYICD’s partner pharmacies. “The externship experience was amazing for me,” he remembers. “I got to put the things I learned into practice.”
After getting to know the pharmacy team and putting his newfound knowledge to use, the hiring manager at CVS felt that Sergio should stay on board and join the team permanently.
“Now that I’ve graduated, I use everything I learned in this course at my new job as a pharmacy technician,” he shares.
The New York Institute of Career Development was founded with exactly this mission in mind- to empower students through flexible, convenient and affordable online courses. Given the opportunity to study at their own pace from home, NYICD students are able to prioritize their career aspirations despite other demands on their time.
“In the past, going back to school was a financially and physically exhausting decision for adults who were already employed or who had family obligations,” says NYICD school director Jacob Boller. “Thanks to NYICD, that’s no longer the reality.”
By providing a self-paced pharmacy technician training program that can be completed online, NYICD empowers those who want a more fulfilling career to pursue education and job training on their own terms. Not only is the program fully accredited, NYICD collaborates with several industry partners, meaning every student benefits from160 hours of real world, on-the-job externship training at their local Walgreens or CVS.
“The advice that I would give current and prospective students is that no matter how much information you have to learn in the course, nothing beats the feeling of helping someone,” Sergio advises. “Knowing that you helped them get the medication they need, you had a part to play in keeping people healthy.”
