New Book Tells a Tale of Unconditional Love, Friendship, Perseverance and Triumph
Roja D. Sooben announces the release of 'The Difference Makers'
DERBYSHIRE, England, July 24, 2019 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- A tale of unconditional love, friendship, perseverance and triumph await readers in Roja D. Sooben's "The Difference Makers" (published by Xlibris UK). Written as a historical fiction interwoven with the highs and lows of ordinary family lives, the book tackles issues in health and social equalities, in relation to the concepts of learning disability and discrimination.
"The Difference Makers" follows Emily Beacon, a mother of a child with Down syndrome, who spearheaded a group of parents from a local Down syndrome parents support center in making sense of the news report on premature deaths among people with learning disabilities.
Driven by the fear of losing their own children, the support group worked doggedly for months to find answers and reassurances that such tragedies can never be repeated. Through perseverance and happy coincidences, the parents gained support from the public in their quest for improvement in the health and social needs of people with learning disabilities.
A few days after their plea for change was aired across the national radio stations, a mention of the work of the support group was made in Parliament. Hope for improvement in health and social care was palpable when the Prime Minister reached out to them.
"The Difference Makers" highlights the importance of empowering parents and careers. It is about claiming a legitimate place and voice for people who are more vulnerable than others. With the book, Sooben hopes to raise awareness about individuals with learning disability and their rights to equal access to care.
