New EarthCam Headquarters Receives ENR New York Best Projects Award
NEW YORK (PRWEB) October 04, 2018 -- EarthCam is busy clearing some premier wall space to showcase its new ENR New York Best Projects award. The webcam technology leader’s new headquarters was recognized as the Best Small Project and was bestowed with this prestigious construction industry honor. EarthCam is proud to share this recognition with its structural engineer, David L. Kufferman, P.E., the architectural team from Davis Brody Bond and Spacesmith and Interior Designer, Vanessa DeLeon.
Selected by a panel of jurists for its dramatic structural intervention, visitors are greeted by an enormous, sloping 25-foot tall video portal encased in an almost 3-story glass curtain wall atrium. The video portal presents a unique medium for transforming EarthCam’s live video content into a digital representation of art imitating life, elegantly displaying the essence of the EarthCam brand. A 6-ton blackened steel tunnel serves as a transitional gateway through the video into EarthCam’s offices. Floor to ceiling windows and skylights bring the outdoors in, providing natural light to the open, organic work spaces throughout the building. Keeping with the green initiative, the LEED-certified interior space has many reclaimed, recycled and repurposed components.

Located on an expansive 10-acre campus in Upper Saddle River, NJ, EarthCampus is a LEED-certified workspace designed by Steven M. Davis, FAIA, of Davis Brody Bond in collaboration with Spacesmith. The architectural team transformed the old factory site into a vibrant campus aimed at boosting employee health and collaboration. The EarthCam building is clad in more than 5,000-square-feet of translucent aluminum panels, which are backlit by 3,500 custom-manufactured LED lights to create a high-tech glow. Made from recycled materials, the façade reflects light during the day, while acting as a sunshield for reduced energy consumption.
The judges were also impressed by the landscaping surrounding the headquarters, which features revitalized grounds originally designed by famed landscape architect James Rose, including meditation areas, walking paths and bike trails. Nods to the elements of earth, water, air and fire are seen throughout the outdoors and interior office spaces, with landscaping in the design sightlines, air moving through the porous aluminum panels and gas-fired globes placed within the water of the fountains.
The nearly 3-year construction process for the award-winning EarthCam Headquarters was documented by over 40 different time-lapse construction cameras, 360° photography and drone videography. Throughout the life of the project, EarthCam made views of the construction process available online via a public web page so visitors could track progress and see important milestones.
Every year, ENR New York assembles an independent group of judges to review, score and determine the final winners from the states of New Jersey and New York. The judging panel recognized the EarthCam Headquarters as the winner for the Best Small Project category. Other ENR New York Best Projects winners include the Goethals Bridge Replacement Project, LaGuardia Airport, NYU Langone Health Science Building, 3 World Trade Center and Zaha Hadid’s 520 West 28th Street – all of which were documented by EarthCam’s construction camera technology.
