New Picture Book Shows Young Readers Why ‘Hacking’s Not a Game’
SAN ANTONIO (PRWEB) April 04, 2019 -- Gregory B. White has been involved with cybersecurity for over 30 years. Throughout his career, he continues to see the same issues causing problems and, often, the biggest issue is human error. He believes this will continue unless people create a “culture of security” in the nation and this needs to begin at an early age. The book introduces readers to the Moose family. The Moose family has been planning their annual trip to the beach for months. However, Max wants to stay home and be online with his friends who are learning to “hack computers.” When he finally agreed to go out, the day does not turn out as planned. Traffic is snarled because someone has hacked into the city’s computers and changed a number of important things. In fact, the Moose family’s whole trip turns into one misadventure after another as their plans are foiled by those who are messing around illegally with businesses’ computers. Max might just know who is responsible for the hacking.
“We need to teach our children about security beginning with the impact that hacking can have,” White explains. “This book is the first of a series of books that can provide parents with stories to illustrate various aspects of cybersecurity to their children. The book provides parents, who might not have a background in computers, with a way to talk to their children about this important topic.”

He has worked in government, industry and academia which gives him a well-rounded perspective of the issues and how to address them. He has written numerous papers on security, made dozens of presentations, has developed multiple security courses and is the co-author of over a half-dozen security textbooks.
