New Tuition-Free Online Public School Approved to Serve Washington Families Statewide
PORT ORCHARD, Wash. (PRWEB) June 04, 2019 -- Beginning in the 2019-20 school year, Washington families with students in grades 7-12 will have another personalized, flexible education option available to meet their students’ unique learning needs. Pacific Northwest Connections Academy, a new tuition-free online public school, has been approved by the South Kitsap School District to serve students statewide. Families can now enroll for the school’s inaugural year.

Pacific Northwest Connections Academy will combine state-certified teachers and high-quality curriculum in a safe, supportive online learning environment, offering each student the flexibility to achieve personal academic success. Using the Personalized Performance Learning® approach, teachers will work one-on-one with their students to develop individualized learning plans that will nurture strengths and provide additional support in areas of need. Real-time feedback, customized schedules and anytime, anywhere access to schoolwork will also help each student learn in a way that’s best-suited for them.
Curriculum, from the nationally-recognized Connections Academy® program, meets rigorous state education standards, and will include core classes as well as engaging electives, honors and AP courses, and Career Technical Education (CTE) classes. Students graduating from Pacific Northwest Connections Academy will earn a Washington High School Diploma. As a public school, all students are required to take the same state assessments as traditional public school students.

Students residing in any county throughout the state are eligible to enroll in Pacific Northwest Connections Academy. An online school approach can serve a wide range of students, including those who need a flexible schedule, learn at a different pace from their peers, need more individualized attention or live in isolated rural settings. Homebound and previously home-schooled students can also find success in the Pacific Northwest Connections Academy program. A parent, or another adult “Learning Coach” helps to monitor student progress in the home.
Beginning in the 2019-20 school year, Pacific Northwest Connections Academy will serve students in grades 7-12 statewide. The school will add a grade level each subsequent year until it serves the full range of grades K-12.
In preparation for its inaugural academic year, the school will establish an office within South Kitsap school district and hire a school leader and a team of certified teachers.
