New Website Helps East Bay Residents Get Ready for Wildfire Season
OAKLAND, Calif. (PRWEB) April 12, 2023 -- The Diablo Firesafe Council (DFSC) has launched its new website to help East Bay residents prepare for wildfire. The site provides residents in Contra Costa and Alameda Counties with instruction, planning, and funding resources to protect their homes before wildfire strikes.
Homeowners will find guides to creating defensible space around their homes with thoughtful maintenance, debris removal, and fire-safe landscaping for both beauty and resilience. The DFSC site also features ways to work with groups of neighbors on community projects like fuel reduction, Firewise® certification, and emergency planning.
Up to $5,000 is available to groups of homeowners and community organizations for clearing brush, tree thinning, and other fuel reduction work. Details and application forms are now available online at http://www.DiabloFiresafe.org.
Small projects are valuable too, and the Diablo Firesafe site features “5 easy things you can do to protect your home.” DFSC President Sheryl Drinkwater reminds neighbors how important small tasks can be: “The most effective way to prepare for fire is often by doing a few simple things around the house.”
Executive Director Cheryl Miller says the Diablo Firesafe Council will continue to expand community outreach and education: “Thanks to generous support from CAL FIRE and California Climate Investments, we are able to reach communities throughout the East Bay with new resources and communication initiatives.”
