Newcomer House Porch Programs Weekend of October 13 & 14
The Newcomer House will host two special programs during the weekend of October 13 and 14.
KEEDYSVILLE, Md., Sept. 26, 2018 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- As part of the Heart of the Civil War Heritage Area's (HCWHA) 2018 Porch Program Series, the Newcomer House will host two special programs during the weekend of October 13 and 14.
Saturday, October 13 at 1 PM Union Mill Homestead Foundation President Sam Riley and Carroll County Public Library's Emerging Technologies Supervisor Jen Bishop will discuss the historic industrial enterprises of the Shriver family at Union Mills and introduce the Union Mills augmented reality interactive experience exhibit at the Newcomer House. The augmented reality exhibit will be up at the Newcomer House from the first weekend of October through the weekend of October 20 and 21.
Sunday, October 14 the Maryland Geocaching Society will provide an introduction to geocaching, including the "Antietam Adventure" lab cache that will get participants exploring the battlefield. Participants are encouraged to bring a smartphone to complete the lab cache. See our website for the day's schedule and other details.
The Newcomer House will be open from 11 AM to 5:00 PM on both days. Volunteer docents will be available to share knowledge about the Newcomer House and offer assistance to visitors to the three county Heart of the Civil War Heritage Area.
This is the third season of Porch Programs at the Newcomer House, HCWHA's Exhibit & Visitor Center at Antietam National Battlefield. Visitors of all ages are invited to interact with experts on a variety of Civil War topics, ranging from first aid to family history. The Newcomer House is located at 18422 Shepherdstown Pike in Keedysville, MD. The house is open weekends in April, May, October and November and daily June through September.
