Nick Diaz Releases Statement Addressing Las Vegas Court Decision To Permanently Dismiss Domestic Assault Case #18F09605X
Nick Diaz Thanks Attorney Ross Goodman and His Fans for Standing By Him Weeks After Grand Jury Decision to Not Move Forward with Indictment
LOS ANGELES, Aug. 31, 2018 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- UFC welterweight Nick Diaz's criminal case was dismissed this morning by the state of Nevada. Three felony charges and one misdemeanor charge were dropped permanently hours before Diaz was scheduled to appear before the judge for a preliminary hearing.
Diaz's lawyer Ross Goodman confirmed that there were several inconsistencies, according to Las Vegas court documents, with the accuser's version of events that took place the night Diaz was arrested. Although the Grand Jury declined to indict Diaz, prosecutors continued to move forward by requesting to present evidence before a judge to determine if the case should go to trial. The videos posted by the accuser days before alleged incident occurred and texts sent to others days after, showed jealousy and revenge as possible motives for accusations. Medical reports also determined injuries sustained did not match inconsistent statements given by accuser to police officers on the day of and in the hospital.
"I trust that the ultimate dismissal of all charges with prejudice (permanently cleared) will be viewed as total vindication for Nick and clears his name from being associated with such horrific but false allegations," Goodman said.
Nick Diaz released a statement in which he expresses gratitude for being able to move forward with his name cleared. "I'm grateful this case is finally over," Diaz said. " I want to thank my team and my lawyer Ross Goodman for the excellent work. But most importantly, I want to thank the fans who stuck by me throughout this process. I'm happy to put this chapter of my life behind me and I'm looking forward to focusing on my return."
