No Fish Story – PENETRON Keeps Hatchery Tanks Intact
EAST SETAUKET, N.Y. (PRWEB) July 23, 2018 -- The July 2018 inauguration of a new fish hatchery in the Republic of Tatarstan, Russia, will provide the region’s rivers, lakes and fish farms with a local supply of fish. PENETRON and PENECRETE MORTAR crystalline materials were used to safely waterproof the fish tanks.
Located in the Laishevsky district of western Tatarstan, the fish hatchery will have an annual production capacity of 5 million trout fry, 1 million sterlet fry (a small sturgeon prized for its caviar) and 50 tons of sturgeon. The hatchery will breed and grow sterlet fry to stock the lakes and reservoirs of the Volga-Vyatka River basin and trout fry to supply the region’s fish farms. In addition, sturgeon are grown at the hatchery for sale directly to consumers throughout Russia.

A Completely Non-Toxic Solution
The large concrete pools dedicated to growing trout and sturgeon were waterproofed with topical applications of PENETRON slurry and PENECRETE MORTAR to seal any cracks in the concrete. All Penetron products are NSF 61-certified and safe for use in potable water tanks – and sensitive applications like a fish hatchery. Absolutely non-toxic with no VOCs, PENETRON is the ideal waterproofing solution for the sensitive conditions found in a hatchery, where young fish fry can react adversely to any type of toxicity or pollution in the water.

Markedly Improving Concrete Durability
Each of the four concrete tanks hold between 200-300 m3 (ca. 53,000-80,000 gallons) of water. Initially, all cracks in the concrete are cleaned out and filled in with PENECRETE MORTAR, which permanently seals the crack against any further water penetration. Finally, PENETRON is applied to the whole surface area with a brush or spray. The active ingredients in PENETRON immediately begin to penetrate into the cracks, micro-cracks and capillary tracts of the concrete, reacting with concrete minerals to form a network of insoluble crystals. This crystalline growth takes place inside the concrete structure, even far from the point of application.
“Once the crystalline network becomes an integral part of the concrete matrix, the waterproofing effect markedly improves concrete durability and reduces permeability,” notes Igor Chernogolov. “This makes any further treatment or maintenance of the concrete unnecessary – a permanent solution!”
