Novant Health Helps People with Cancer Thrive During and After Treatment
CHARLOTTE, N.C. (PRWEB) June 18, 2019 -- Through the generosity of the Martin Truex Jr. Foundation and SherryStrong.org, Novant Health has partnered with the Healing Kitchens Institute to offer patients with a cancer diagnosis free online access to the Cancer Fighting Kitchen Course, a self-guided class that includes a library of short videos about healthy eating through cancer, as well as simple recipes that nourish body and spirit. The program can also be accessed by caregivers, family and friends who may want to offer their loved ones support by cooking nutritious, comforting meals.
Patients who have a personal nutrition consultation with a Novant Health registered dietician can also receive the Healing Kitchens Culinary RX kit which includes pantry lists, menus and delicious recipes designed to meet nutritional and hydration needs during cancer treatment and beyond. Additionally, cooking classes are offered quarterly at the Buddy Kemp Cancer Support Center.
The Healing Kitchens Institute was started in 2010 by Rebecca Katz MS, a trained chef, author of several acclaimed cookbooks and pioneer educator in using food as medicine.
“We are fortunate and excited to partner with the Healing Kitchens Institute to offer dietary guidance to our patients and the people who care for them,” said Dr. Russell Greenfield, director of Novant Health Integrative Medicine in both Winston Salem and Charlotte. “Nutritious food should be tasty and satisfying, and is important in supporting an optimal response to treatment and subsequent healing. I am so grateful to the Martin Truex Jr. Foundation and to SherryStrong.org for making this innovative program available to our patients.”
