Number of States Reporting Lexile and Quantile Measures Doubles
DURHAM, N.C. (PRWEB) September 26, 2018 -- More students and parents will receive Lexile and Quantile scores on high stakes test reports this school year than ever before. The number of states using Lexile® and Quantile® measures doubled in the past two years, according to MetaMetrics®, developer of the widely adopted Lexile Framework® for Reading and Quantile Framework® for Mathematics.
Last school year, 15 states and the U.S. Virgin Islands used Lexile and Quantile measures to support student learning. And in the 2018-19 school year, that number is expected to double with more than half of the nation projected to report Lexile and Quantile measures from their state assessment systems.
States offering the measures statewide last school year were: Georgia, Hawaii, Idaho, Kansas, Kentucky, Maine, Minnesota, Nevada, North Dakota, North Carolina, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Texas, West Virginia, Wyoming and the U.S. Virgin Islands. In all other states, Lexile and Quantile measures are used and reported at local levels.
More than just scores, Lexile and Quantile measures are a tool for educators to help personalize instruction and an easy-to-understand measure that can be discussed with parents and other stakeholders. The Lexile and Quantile Frameworks place both the student and instructional materials on the same developmental scale to match the learner with appropriate math and reading resources at each student’s ability level.
The increase in state adoption of Lexile and Quantile measures is due to several factors including new tools and resources to support students from the level of beginning readers all the way through to planning for college and careers.
For example, the Lexile and Quantile Growth Planners are used to forecast student growth based on past performance and work toward college- and career-readiness. The Growth Planners also offer information on needed reading and math levels, educational requirements, salary ranges and job demand for hundreds of careers.
MetaMetrics also rolled out enhancements to the Lexile scale to better match beginning readers to text and monitor growth to third grade proficiency.
