Object Management Group Adopts Retail, Cybersecurity and Middleware Specifications at Q2 Members Meeting
NEEDHAM, Mass. (PRWEB) July 24, 2018 -- The Object Management Group® (OMG®), an international, open membership, not-for-profit technology standards consortium, adopted six new specifications and issued three new RFPs at its quarterly members meeting, held from June 18-22, 2018 in Boston, Massachusetts. The meeting was sponsored by No Magic, RTI and Sparx Systems.
Newly Adopted Specifications
The board of directors adopted the following submissions and reports:
• ARTS XML Video Analytics enables multi-vendor interoperability for advanced analytics like facial recognition, people/demographic counting, and hazard identification. Examples include software that recommends specific offers to shoppers who are recognized to be enrolled in a retailer's loyalty program, or an alert sent to a clerk if there is a problem in an aisle.
• DDS_XRCE™ extends the security, scalability, performance and quality-of-service benefits of the Data-Distribution Service™ (DDS™) databus to resource-constrained devices, such as limited CPU and memory devices using very low-bandwidth communications, and battery-powered devices that need to undergo deep-sleep cycles.
• IEF™ Reference Architecture is a framework to develop a family of specifications for policy-driven, data-centric information sharing and safeguarding services. This framework will benefit operational environments that require the ability to share information within and beyond organizational boundaries and are challenged by unpredictable changes in operational contexts (e.g., threat, risk, roles & responsibilities, scale, scope, and severity) such as the military, public safety, national security and border safety.
• OPC UA/DDS Gateway defines a standard, bi-directional gateway that maps the operations and information flows in each technology (Data-Distribution Service or OPC-UA) to the other one so that an application using OPC-UA can consume information and services produced in DDS and vice-versa.
• Tools Output Integration Framework™ (TOIF™) provides a standards-based environment that integrates the outputs of multiple static analysis tools in a single uniform view of vulnerability information. Cyber security professionals, responsible for managing risks of software intensive systems, will find that TOIF-enabled static analysis tools and other TOIF-enabled tools provide enhanced vulnerability detection capability that builds upon both commercial and open source tools.
• UnifiedPOS Version 1.15 is a widely accepted architectural specification for application interfaces to point-of-service devices used in a retail environment. It defines the structure of application interfaces to retail devices such as scanners, printers and scales, and describes the range of functionality in these devices that would typically be needed for point-of-sale (POS) software solutions.

New Standard Development
New RFPs were issued to solicit submissions for new standards. Organizations interested in submitting must submit a letter of intent (LOI) by the LOI deadline in order to submit to a RFP. Submitting a LOI does not commit an organization to being part of a submission team. The most recent RFPs issued were:
• EDI Standards for Non-Medical Workplace Benefits seeks input to establish a uniform standard that transmits electronic data for non-medical workplace benefits between benefit administration/HRIS organizations and insurance carriers. Letters of Intent are due by September 14, 2018 and submissions are due on November 12, 2018.
• OARIS™ v2.0 (Additional Sensors) seeks support for additional sensor types and their command and control requirements, such as sonar, electronic surveillance (of radar and other radio frequency transmissions), electro-optic and infra-red, and invites additional Platform Specific Models that apply to different sensor types. Letters of Intent are due by June 21, 2019 and submissions are due on November 11, 2019.
• SysML 2 API and Services specifies requirements for an Application Programming Interface (API) that includes services to operate on SysML® v2 models and connect SysML v2 models with models in other disciplines. Letters of Intent are due by December 10, 2018 and submissions are due in February 1, 2020.
